How would one go about creating this?

seems like some sub bassline, but has a more rounded character that meshes perfectly in with the kick and sort of gives the kicks a tonal melodic quality

you can achieve this sound with 808 kicks and EQ. doesn't sound intuitive but if you plug an 808 kick into a sampler and just let your fingers move across your midi keyboard it'll become clear.

also with sine wave and envelope tweaking...

ah nice that's got it, thanks!
i hear now that the kicks in those examples are layered, so you got the punchy kick then the 808s behind it to give it a good tone.

cheers :)

none of those kicks are tonal. You are conflating the bass and kick as one element.

It sucks as a VST but if you record your output to audio and sequence that it can be useful.
