well technically, it's been around all that time, for home and commercial AV installers like crestron etc, and my old boss had his resident magician write audio lan drivers that actually worked for his sample array network, but at least hopefully it will available for studio use now.

ya, there just has not been a really stable way. FX teleport kinda fizzled, wormhole and bidule was hit or miss. Just got it today. This version allows you to use another computer as an fx rack.

I never understood why they didn't develop FX teleport further - it had all the makings of success but they just kind of got to a certain point then dumped it.

Q: have you tried cross platform yet?

Any idea what the upgrade cost is? I only see the full price. Not sure that I need v5 anyway, since I only use it as a subhost on the same computer.

Edit: n/m, I found the upgrade price after I logged in (€40)

So, I bought the upgrade. I will probably never use the audio over LAN feature, surround mixing, or MIR integration(even though they look very cool!), but the ability to send audio into VEP, play/stop the host, automation, and better track management was worth the $54.

Sorry, are we talking about Vienna ensemble?

I thought that feature was integrated quite a while ago, unless that isn't what we are talking about.

Yeah, VEP5. The ability to route audio into it is a new feature, and allows you to use VEP5 as an effects unit now, even on a slave computer (i.e., over LAN).

you are using the audio over lan no ?

or just outside your DAW. AH I think you use protools which is 32 bit ? I think that is the case.

I can't vouch for MAC to PC but MAC to MAC is rock solid. It finally lets you off load stuff to a slave computer say an fx chain that would normally kill your cpu and have that as a preset on your slave.

And when you think about say UAD -2 quad. Well a mac mini is 500$ with less latency, I am going to buy 2 mac minis. But this just makes the whole powered plugins model of UAD ridiculous.

Yeah, I'm just using it as a subhost to PT (on the same computer) to get around PT's 32-bit limitation. I use it occasionally as a workaround to other hosts for plugins that don't work with JBridge as well.
