Personally, I find this poll to be a more accurate in representing talent than others like DJ Mag.. when it comes to techno and its sub genres of course. Here are the results from last year -> RA Poll: Top DJs of 2010
Who will you be voting for?
My picks for top djs ->
1. Hernan Cattaneo
2. John Digweed
3. Dubfire
4. Max Cooper
5. Robert Babicz or Ryan Davis.. still not sure
Picks for top live acts ->
1. Pantha Du Prince
2. Fairmont
3. Mathew Jonson
4. Arthur Oskan |

That would all depend on the person. Everyone likes different styles of music.
Also, djmag is much bigger than RA is so it will obviously reach a larger mainstream audience. |

Ehh, it sucks from a standpoint of how "good" the DJs are, but it is a pretty accurate measurement of popularity. Which is about all you can expect from a list so widely publicized and voted on by the general public. It is what it is.
It is at least better in its scope however, the RA one is evidently very much house & techno-centric. There are good DJs who play other music too. |

That's true. I personally think that for the most part, a lot of the djs on the RA list deserve to be there based on their technical abilities.. unlike the ones on DJ mag. But yeah, it is subjective. The sort of poll you subscribe to depends on what sort of music gets you going at the end of the day.
The order of djs in the is quite off (ie, Villalobos ranking higher than Jeff Mills?) and there are quite a few that don't really deserve to be there. It's true, there is a strong popularity aspect to it as with every other poll.. but thing that differentiates this list from the more mainstream ones is that the voters are somewhat more in tune with the scene. That's why I think its more representative of talent in the techno / house world.
Anyways... who did you vote for? lool |

voters have dug deeper in search for "fresh" and "original" sounds and more technical prowess, etc. The other poll is a flat out popularity contest with music that is more surface level but appeals to a wide scope of ppl.
Both sets of polls have entertaining djs but what is entertaining to you is highly subjective, imo. To me personally, there is a time and place to enjoy djs from both lists. |
