| One thing that still irks me is that they gave Oakenfold NYC. Why? What connection does Oakey have to New York? He played a total Cream set as well. Should have been GU:007 Liverpool, as unglamorous as that sounds, and then Sasha's blatantly Twilo GU:009 could have been New York rather than San Francisco. |

I was always under the impression that the cities picked were purposely made to have nothing to do with the DJ. |

Sasha's GU San Fran is one of the best mix cds ever imo. Ibiza one is good as well.
Digweed's 3 different ones were cool. I liked a couple of the earlier ones ie. Nick Warren and Dave Seaman even Oakie's.
I think Danny Howells GU 27 was the last REALLY good one.
Some of the Nubreed cds were awesome as well such as Sander's and Danny's |

Oakenfold lived in NYC for a time in the 80s, when he was the A&R guy who signed Jazzy Jeff and Salt n Pepa |

| I would rather that they cease to exist than to further tarnish the GU legacy that they created. After GU 024 is when it started to hit that downward spiral. |

Yeah okay, but that doesn't have much relevance to the GU compilation. I thought they were supposed to be about capturing the sounds of local dancefloors. There is an interview with Oakey from 1998 where he has this to say:
| quote: | | What I have done up until now is deliberately stayed out of America. I did a one-off party a year and a half ago at Twilo in conjunction with CMJ and it was 'okay.' From a numbers point of view, it was packed, but I felt musically, I went way over their heads. |
Sounds like he had a real connection with NYC, doesn't it? Also, there's a transition on GU:007 where he cues the incoming record on the wrong beat. That's the kind of mistake you make in your bedroom when you've just bought your decks, and yet it made it onto a commercially released CD. Absolutely shocking. |
