Hi,
I have never partied in California so I was wondering where Trance is most popular? SF? LA?
(21+ that is...)
Thanks! :) |

1. LA - circus disco
2. SF - Ruby Skye (not so much right now, tends to go in trance -> house -> trance cycles)
3. SD - Spin (?) |

| probably the most popular in LA. SF is a bit more underground (in my opinion), alot of techno, tech house, etc. |

Trance is probably more popular in LA than in any other US city.
Circus in Hollywood has trance almost every Saturday.
Insomniac has some Friday night trance events coming up at The Exchange downtown.
Once or twice every couple of months, Avalon in Hollywood will have a major trance DJ on a Saturday night.
It's rare to have a weekend without a trance DJ somewhere in town. |

not really popular anywhere.
the big name dj's will draw people.
Fact filled Example:
above and beyond tends to sell out all their events and bring out the scalpers.
SF charges an arm and a leg for their shows.(ruby skye)
LA charges an arm and a leg for their shows.(palladium)
SD charges peanuts and crackers for their shows. (fluxx)
which i find odd since fluxx is the smallest of the 3 venues. sure they usually play SD on a thursday, but $10 as opposed to $35 to start is quite a deal. Plus the girls who go to shows in SD are way hotter than the ones in LA and SF. |

does that mean its popular? i've heard of many a night where the crowd is quite small(especially for such a large venue)
also its mostly smaller names playing at this venue, i mean that "quadruple headliner" ???
i know im not a trancehead, but i would never imagine any of them on the top bill of any of the california massives that insomniac or go ventures put together.(or even on the bottom of the bill!)
when you think trance you got to put these guys at the top of the list
ferry corsten
avb
atb
pvd
tiesto
markus schulz
christopher lawrence
and sure a couple of these guys don't play "trance" anymore(markus, atb, tijs etc). |

Yes, it means it's popular. If you can have a decent sized crowd show up for a DJ who is by no means a "superstar", with minimal promotion, then it means the genre is doing well here.
In Atlanta a couple of years ago, Cosmic Gate drew a crowd much smaller than the usual Circus crowd. So small, in fact, that the club only kept one bar open. Only Armin, PVD, Tiesto, Ferry, BT, and the like were able to draw a crowd there. Last year I heard from friends that Marco V got pushed from the side room to a low-volume outside patio to make more room for the main room crowd... there to see just another local hip-hop DJ.
LA is spoiled when it comes to EDM in general. When you compare trance to house, it makes it seem like trance isn't popular, but it is. Just not as popular as house. And in the US, that has always been the case and is probably always going to be the case. |

I know you're joking, but I would love it if a club around here had a 90s eurodance night. I mean 80s nights were all the rage 5-6 years ago, the 90s have to come back at some point! |

| Trance is quite popular in southern california. You get a lot of big name DJs coming to LA, OC, and SD. |

True that. The few times I've been to Circus, it has been quite rammed, and no when a superstar was playing, just a fairly well known producer or mid fame DJ.
When AVB, Pvd or such like are on the flyer, it's noob night and any club will be packed mainly with people who aren't really even that in to trance itself.
house is everywhere and has really killed hiphop as the mainstay of most clubs and bars. |
