I personally hate dubstep but I have to admit, I'm kinda glad there's this sort of garbage that keeps the kiddies away from partying with the grownups. When they're old enough to understand, they'll move on to better music... but for now, I'll take more dancefloor space.
for what it's worth - it's sort of taking a hold, in a sense. outside of the mainstream, even. i saw some interview, this must've been a month ago, with dettmann (can't remember where he was playing. i think somewhere in london. maybe fabric idk..). so anyway, they're asking him how his set will be and eventually even ask him if he's gonna drop any dubstep. of course he goes on a bit about how he doesn't subscribe to this idea of pigeonholing anything and how he doesn't think about playing a set that way etc etc but naturally the idea is this: there's some dubstep, no no skrillex/brostep, that actually meshes quite well with almost any kind of set. hearing burial tracks at a tech party doesn't peeve me at all.
and then this track
i discovered in tale of us' recent ra podcast and kinda thought '. if that's dubstep. i dig. would love hearing a track like that played out to such wonderful affect'. they ran some seth troxler acapella over it haha i guess you likely heard that podcast (was good!)

I don't know, it's def dubby, but wouldn't go as far as calling it dubstep... but yes, I have heard some dubstep stuff in techno sets, and I'm just not a fan of the sound, it just sounds like noise to me. Basically the same way I feel about drum & bass.
I did hear the Tale of Us RA podcast, it was good, but not my cup of tea lately.

At first I was totally against it, but then like which anything that you judge by the "cover" in this sense would be Skrillex...when you dig a little deeper and actually take the time to explore the genre a bit more you may find that there is some music in the genre that suits your taste. I've found several melodic dubstep artists that I like. While I don't like the genre as a whole, particularly dislike the tracks with mcing, or screaming I do like SOME tracks from the genre.

I hate how some people label anything techy as minimal because it's not trance, prog, electro, or dubstep. It's as annoying to me as anyone who calls all dance music "TECHNO"
This one promoter had me for a gig a while ago promoted me as a minimal dj....ummm I don't think so :whip: :whip: :whip:

I wasn't referring to you! I know you are good with genres :)
I was just ranting on my general dislike of the minimal term. I don't really care for the genre either because it's not very club friendly imo. It's afterparty music and I hated being referred to as a minimal dj because that term turns people off before they had a chance to hear what I actually play.
I've given dubstep plenty of chances but it's crap imo and the crowds at dubstep events would rather just form moshpits like a metal concert vs. actually dance like house events...It's just not my thing.
