referring to Guetta, Afrojack, Skrillex, etc.

at the end of the day, if the crap these producers released didn't sell, they would not be where they are at today.

It's a fad just like 90's House. Then just like that, it will be all over and your gonna have a new genre. I call it: DubHop, HipStep, DubTrop, or HopStep, no.. correction Hopscotch.

I agree with both of the above comments.

# sells != quality

That is like saying "Don't blame the politician, blame the voters that put him in office a year before he chose to pass that stupid law"

When that producer sits down to make music, he has the choice of what to make....
'Blame' can fall on both, but don't give the artist a get out of jail free card

I blame Guetta for all this for targeting those who are new to EDM. He goes out and collaborates with mega star singers, puts their vocals over his simple electro tracks and sells them to the newbies because they are familiar with the collaborator. As far as Tiesto, he sells records based on name. The newbies buy that because they are familiar, not because they actually think it's good. Their reasoning is "If he's the #3 ranked DJ then everything he plays has to be good." The quality of the actual track could sound like chainsaws and random noises but it'll sell because it's the cool thing i.e. Dubstep

People don't elect artists for a specific time, they can choose to stop buying their music or going to their shows whenever they want. The reason why the guys on top are so successful is because people KEEP buying their their crap, not because they were chosen by the masses one day 3 years ago.

Yes, the artists made the music in the first place, but they wouldn't be anywhere if people didn't like it. If Afrojack stopped making ty house someone else making equally ty house would just take his place.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. The players are just trying to play.

I don't blame the players, nor do I blame the fans. I blame the lousy infrastructure in dance music. There are guys doing live PAs, local legend producer/DJs who aren't getting their credit, and bedroom producers making hot songs who aren't getting props because of the lousy infrastructure in certain sectors of dance music. If you are on some lousy list, you pretty much have tenure for life in massives.

what's the saying... 'a rising tide lifts all ships'? i'd rather see Guetta #1 on the charts than Nickelback! lol
