Drum rack volume in livewhen using samples?

I cant figure out this probably simple thing..

If i load a drumrack in live, like an 808 or something, i can adjust the volume of each hit with no problem.. so i can have some closed hats high volume, some less etc etc..

But if i drag a sample into a slot and use that, the volume has no effect (i can still set it, it just doesnt change)?

Anyone know what im doing wrong?

most likely you need to turn up the velocity in the simpler instance containing the sample.

It's a common complaint with the drum racks in Ableton. The default setting is not to everyones liking, so set it the way you want that then save that as default. It will load up exactly how you want it the next time you insert one into a channel.

It's almost certainly the velocity, but it could be other parameters like the release time on longer samples. I've defaulted mine to maximum release and velocity at 0 db.

Yeah it was the velocity.. why on earth does it default to 0.. Thanks!
Fledz
Actually I lie. I did originally default it to 0 but I've since bumped it back to -6 instead of original -12. Works better as some samples are overly loud and you can damage your ears accidentally.

yeah i use about that value too for db :) thanks for the help!

if i change it in simpler/drumrack and save as default will that value be set for all future instances of simpler/drumrack i start? or just on one track saved in the template?

i guess i could be not lazy and try it :)

If you right-click and set as default, that is your new template. That is how it will be every time you load up a new one in any project.

Hmm... I only have a 'return to default' option? There should be a save as default?

think your clicking in the wrong place - try clicking the top of the simpler window

Perfect, thanks!
