agreed with a lot... but here is the deal. Because people steal so much music now, the producers who used to make a living staying in the studio are forced to tour. Also, the tours are forced to charge more per ticket to make up for the lack of sales. Also, tours used to promote record sales, now record sales (giveaways) promote tours. The added hype needed to sell these new type of shows promotes the worship and attitude.
This to me explains the change of focus when it comes to both club shows and concerts alike. Answer: Start buying music
I know those who always feel the need to justify their theft are going to freak out about my opinion. Oh well
Back to hibernation.... :D |

This isn't a well written article by any means. It's not bad, but it's not great :p
It's purely subjective. I see a lot of his points, but there's just too much rambling on about the obviousness of things. He's made some good points, but nothing that people probably don't already know. He's borderline elitest, but I won't say he is because he backs it up with a good little spiel about what it all meant to him from the beginning. Problem is there SOOO much that he doesn't touch on which gives this "article" a lot less creditability. There's TONS I'd LOVE to touch on in what he's talking about, but I don't have the time for it, but the fact that he takes so much time "researching" music.... I don't know, everybody has their own methods, this guy is simply trying to say how and why he has the best stuff... inevitably, he sounds like a DJ who had a dream and realized it wasn't for him. Big deal. |

Most of the points that we agree on are probably self-evident in the scene anyways. I'm sorry, but this article smacks of hipster douchebaggery in the form of "I'm so transcendant that the scene (and thus DJs) suck because I'm so beyond it".
Bitching about hype is nothing more than trying to get the starving artists all riled up. Want to make a living with your art? Then you better get some business skills. The technical term for hype is "marketing". There are about 1000 DJs more technically proficient than Tiesto. Why is he wealthy and famous and able to get head from underage girls in the booth? Simple answer: Him and Arny Bink sat down nearly 15 years ago and took a look at their situation. Playing in a ty little club in Breda wasn't a living - it was a hobby. Want to make more money? Better get a bigger gig. How do I get the bigger gig? Make me bigger than God! Get my name out their in lights. Stage big parties around me, etc. etc. etc. Any idiot can spin, but not everybody has the chops to effectively market their brand. |

Stopped reading at the part about drugs.
Sounded too much like typical self-righteous straight-edge douchebaggery. |
