Hi guys!
I'm wondering if there is any promoters out there, preferably Canadian who would mind helping out with a party in northern Ontario. Not really helping me, but aswering some questions. I really want to start promoting the trance scene out there.
A) Cuz there is nothing for kids to do
B) Could do it on the side for extra cash
C) Like we all know trance needs to be shared with everybody
Nothing big at all, but I want to know some laws, permits, etc... Thanks, I appreciate it.

hehe oh ya! Biggest one in Canada my man, in fact one of the biggest in North America. However, I'm going to school in this neck of the woods, back home in northern Ontario there is no such things as raves. Not yet anyways. A bunch of us are putting together some little parties for the summer. Nothing big at all, but something. I really think they deserve to hear what's out there. Trance should be shared with everyone. =)
thanks for the help tho everbody
I realize promoters don't want to give away secrets and stuff, but I just need some advice really.

Hey jonathan,
first of all mate, u need to decide exactly what sort of party u want to throw. Is it gonna be indoors or outdoors? If there are any decent clubs around, ring them and see if they will be up for one-off hire. Use established clubs if u can because u can use their profile to build your own. On the other hand, if u cant afford a big club, or their arent any around, then try hiring a community centre, school hall etc... it sounds cheesy i know, but they can be cool if promoted right. Also, an indoor gig will not be victim to weather. On the other hand, u will need additional costs ie bar staff, security, and u will have 2 be more careful with damage.
If u wanna go for an outdoor rave, thats cool, but its difficult to do well. Organise carefully. Firstly, choose an excellent site... wide open spaces can be atmosphereless, and enclosed spaces claustrophobic... if u are not expecting huge numbers, dont use a field or anything coz it will look really empty. Try to establish a central focal point, ie a stage or booth, to give the space some direction. Look carefully at lighting and decoration... it will be the largest expense along with soundsystem, but well worth it, it will create the atmosphere. Ring around different sound companies, they will be happy to help u out and they will know aht power rigs u will need. Lowest price is niot always best, check out the systems and make sure the sound is good.
Get a crew of pals together or whatever, u will need loads of people to help make it a success... deputise them, ie put someone in charge of sound, someone lighting etc.
It is crucial to spread the word well... use record stores and flyer outside parties, posters outside schools etc. And dont price it too heavily, if u intend to charge, The higher the price, the better security u will need!
Oh and one tip, dont aim for big name djs at first, they are overpriced and over egoed. Build the profile of your event, starting small, with good local djs who will play for free.
Thats just for starters mate, if u got any specific questions just ask.
