This made me re-listen to [home.], which I have to say, IMO, is much better than this mix :toothless

I love that mix, and honestly think it might be the best I've ever done. If I had to rank my own favorites, they'd run roughly (in no particular order):
Chiaroscuro
[home.]
Gonzo
Green
Audiography 1 & 2
Synthesis
Random Summer
Twilight Ride |

Was listening to this a lot yesterday, it's a really good mix. I've never played LA Noire but I liked the intro song! Funnily enough while listening to the first song of the mix, I was reading a NeoGAF [gaming message board] thread about the most disappointing games of 2011 and nearly every post was LA Noire :P
So, there are a few songs I really dug on here, "Spaceship", "Can't Leave You" (one of my favorites of the year), and "Nasty Things" (a highlight of the Wolf + Lamb vs Soul Clap mixcomp). I especially thought mixing in "Erotic City" after "Nasty Things" fit absolutely perfectly... before looking at the tracklist I wasn't at all sure how you'd fit in Prince and Talking Heads... but you did a splendid job of making it work. |

Cheers.
This actually segues nicely into a short rant I was going to make to bump this thread, heh.
I'll try to be as succinct as possible, but basically what I'm trying to get at is that in my own opinion, and as the person who mixed this, I feel like this is maybe the most satisfied with a mix I have ever been.
I'm not trying to argue that it's objectively great, or even good, but I feel like it's the single most satisfying mix I've ever done. Everything that I wanted to do, some of which I've wanted to do for years, I accomplished.
From Robb's track to start, to the slow build into the Maxxi Soundsystem and Maceo Plex tunes, the abrupt change in pace with the Schwarz/Sasse tune, the filthy funk with a bit of standard techno, and of course, ending a set with one of my favorite tracks of all time. For me, this is who I've been trying to be as DJ for over a decade, and whether or not anyone else really likes it is irrelevant, at least in terms of how good I feel about it.
To have anyone enjoy it at all is an absolute bonus, and extraordinarily humbling. I don't do this anymore for any other reason than I can't imagine not (repost), and the fact that sets I put together are enjoyed by the community makes me very, very happy.
It's good to have an outlet. Thanks again guys.
Oh, also, I just started playing through LA Noire again. I really loved that game. ;) |
