Having seen them twice, they did a really really good job of making you feel like you were there. The music, and timing with the visuals was awesome. The lighting totally tripped you out.
But, it got really weird sometimes. I guess they played a bit differently for the Japanese. The extra clown faces were a bit much, and I have not seem them at any other show (recorded or not) for that length of time. I could have done without the family of scary clowns.
I know they were trying to instil a feeling of being there, by having extreme close ups of members of the crowd, again, too much. The facial shots could have been paired back.
But, damn that was trippy as all hell, just like their actual live show. The sound was very well tuned, as the highs were perfect. The lows were not bassy enough, and I was longing for some chest rattling bass.
Overall a very fun experience. They are such an amazing band, I hope they keep doing what they are doing for a long time to come.
The ultimate knob twiddlers. |

I thought it was fantastic and wouldn't have changed anything and enjoyed the quirky Japanese crowd shots too, they def make funny ass expressions. All the tunes were massive, and love the trippy elements they bring.
I def cant wait to see them again! They love that when you watch them they give you a pink floyd-esque feeling when you watch their show that you went somewhere lol Its def not just a show but an experience. |

BTW - Don't Think was from their last album, and was available on the Japanese version, which had it as a bonus track. The Japanese versions of their albums have bonus songs, which NA does not get. :whip: :whip:
There was also a new song which I have never heard, called Super Flash. Felt a little like it was lower key to help you get some energy back for a big finish. |

Very clever film.
The choice of using the Japan concert was very smart (Japanese crowd are very different from the typical NA crowd), so was incorporating elements from narrative/documentary style (focusing on few "characters" from the crowd, adding the fantasy scenes) into the concert footage and made it feel very different from the usual performance/concert films.
Another interesting thing was choosing their concert VFX guy to direct the film, made the visual aspect of the film much better.
Great editing and direction by Adam Smith, who's interview you might find interesting :

Would you guys say this is one of the best DJ/performances adapted into a film?
Cause I was really disappointed in Daft Punk Electroma. Especially since if followed their Alive tour shortly after. |

Really enjoyed this a lot. Made me want to finally see the Chemicals Brothers even more than I have before. Very intense - but in a good way. The film really put you right into the crowd.
I loved the filming, especially when panned off into scenes away from the main crowd - very trippy and well done.

I wouldnt call that a dj performance adaptation though. Totally different. That was just Daft Punk being whack jobs |

That's why I said dj slash performance (as in dj or performance) then used the word 'adapted' (as in converted) into a film.
So is Don't think more or less a film about a concert then? |

it's not 'about' the concert...it is THE concert. It is about experiencing what it feels like to be in the crowd. They did a very good job with that.
It might be showing in Feb again, then obviously the dvd/bluray when that comes out. |
