Question for Cubase and Access Virus users

This question has been asked many times.. although my situation is slightly different.

I'm using an Access Virus TI Snow and Cubase Elements 6.
The Virus has Total Integration, meaning it runs as a VST instrument channel in Cubase. Now I can only have it running on one VST channel, the plugin does not allow me to run it on multiples.

So the only way I figured out how to have multiple Virus tracks running simultaneously in Cubase was to add a MIDI channel and map these MIDI channels to the Virus MIDI In channel.

My problem now is I need to add FX such as EQ and compression to the individual MIDI tracks, but Cubase doesn't let me do this.

Anyone know of a way around this?

Thanks :happy2:

The TI/TI2 can send audio out over 3 stereo channels via USB - I believe that this applies to the Snow as well, but not positive.

You need to set up two additional audio tracks in Cubase so that each one receives audio from one of the Virus' 3 stereo outputs. Then you can route any of your Virus' parts to any one of the three outputs. Going from memory here (I'm at work, not in front of my Virus), select a part that you want to route in Virus Control (i.e., click on the part number on the lefthand side), click on the Common Page, and set the output to one of the 3 USB outputs. If everything is configured correctly, you should be getting parts on all three audio channels, each of which can be processed independently in Cubase.

You also need to add the Virus VST as a VST instrument (using F11) to enable multiple outputs. If you add it as an instrument channel you'll only have one output.

So what you are saying is in Cubase you can only have up to 3 channels at once being used by the Virus that you can apply FX to?

Thanks will try what you said.

It's the same with any DAW

The Virus will only give you 3 individual output channels as that's all it has.

3 stereo channels over USB, yes. That's a "limitation" of the Virus, not Cubase. Keep in mind that you can alternatively get up to 6 mono tracks, or some combination of mono/stereo tracks. You can get additional outputs by routing parts to the analog (1/4-inch) outputs as well. But, keep in mind that the more parts you are playing (especially if many internal FX are used), the more voices and processing power you will use and, in many cases, that will lead to dropouts or voice stealing.

Don't forget that you can always bounce parts to audio and process them independently.

Ok I'm still confused.

In the TI VST I have the 4 available slots to load patches into on the left. For each slot, I click on the common tab, and have assigned Out1 L + R to the first slot, USB 1 L + R to the 2nd, and USB 2 L + R to the 3rd.

I have the Virus TI loaded as a VST instrument in the F11 window. It is not loaded as an instrument track. I only see VST instrument tracks.

I have setup each VST Instrument in the F11 window to Virus T1 Stereo Output 1, 2, and 3 respectively.

Now my question is how do I assign these outputs to the new audio tracks I have created?

Thanks for the help. If I can just get this working I'll be as happy as a mage pig in enchanted :D

In the VST instrument window (f11) there's a small arrow next to the Virus plugin name, and when you hover over it, it'll say activate all outputs. That'll give you 3 channels within Cubase that you'll be able to route the Virus outputs to. I can't remember 100% how the Virus VST works now but you'll have to assign a midi channel to each of the 16 parts in the Virus, then route whichever of those parts you want to be routed to whichever of the 3 outputs you want them to go to. You'll also need to set up corresponding midi channels in Cubase to send note/control data to each of the parts you use in the Virus plugin.

Ultimately you could be using any amount of the 16 available parts in the Virus plugin, but routed in any combination to the 3 outputs available.

handy little thread

i learnt some stuff :)

Ok I've managed to get USB1 L+R and USB2 L+R mapped to seperate outputs in Cubase. So I have two working with individual effects.

Although the only remaining option I have it OUT L+R on the Virus, yet this never works when I map it.

I also have a USB3 L+R, but this is always greyed out in the Virus so I can never choose it as an output.

Any ideas?

Ok I managed to figure this out, under the Patch Utility tab, you need to change the USB Audio Mode from "2 Outs, No Inputs", to "3 Outs, No Inputs".

Now I have all 3 rockin' :stongue:
Raphie
so Virus Ti

up to 16 midi parts
to be routed through 3 analog, 3 USB and 1 spdif out maximum
the 3 USB's are directly configured by the TI VSTi
the analogue outs and digital out needs to be configured as "external instruments" (not supported in elements)
