That doesn't mean it has to be the stereotypical halftime that so many people define dubstep by these days. This is especially true for the London guys, who grew up with jungle and UK Garage, where messing with syncopation was one of the key elements
Granted, but stereotypical or not, it's very, very rare to hear dubstep where every major danceable element is at 140bpm. If the drums are fast and rolling, the bass is usually ultra-slow, or whatever. I have never heard a dubstep set that comes close to generating the kind of sweat-soaked energy that is commonplace in other genres. I suppose it's theoretically possible, because more tracks like this one must exist:

Thats songs actually really good.
Annoys me how people say trance is to repetitive, then they tell you that they listen to dubstep lol.
Dunno why but I enjoy this song.

Well, I didn't see any "moronic slow mo skanking" among the people worked into a frenzy when Kode9 dropped Mala - Left Leg Out at Fabric a couple of years back. If anything, all the space dubstep has once the subbass foundation is laid down gives room for rhythms and percussion to generate dancefloor energy in a way very few other genres can do, something I experienced first hand when I went to DMZ and related dubstep parties in London around 2006-7.
Granted, this was before Skrillex et al, but I don't think dubstep should be written off as "undanceable" simply because DJs are too incompetent/uninterested to exploit the full dancefloor potential it has in 2012.

I'm not saying it's inherently undanceable, I'm saying it's extremely rare in my experience. When the overwhelming majority of tracks and DJ sets in a genre lack energy, I think it's totally fair to say dubstep isn't energetic.
I'd be happy to hear audible examples of genuinely energetic dubstep sets.

I could recommend some, but I doubt you'd find any of them energetic if one major danceable element being slow is that detrimental to a music's energy for you. Besides, I lost interest in the genre several years ago, so I'm not very up to date on what's been going on with it.
I just wanted to point out that the characteristics dubstep has/had aren't necessarily a problem energywise for people who like to actually dance, and not just stand still slowly putting one foot forwards and backwards.

I personally have never had an issue dancing to dubstep. White kids in Atlanta though? All about that slo-mo skank/grind movement. Looks really boring.
I find it hilarious that people say Dubstep is hard to dance to. Dubstep is much better for choreography and any sort of organized dance than 4/4 house/trance music is.

I know when i go out to clubs i like to choreograph dance routines for the night.

Who doesn't? Imagine being caught out one night and not having the right moves for a particular track, just because you weren't properly prepared? Embarrassing, IMO.

It's very good moshing music.
Moshing is dancing, right?
