First DnB track, work in progress.

This is my first real effort to make a DnB track, it's a genre I know very little about. Apart from 2-3 sets I've heard I have no other experience in these waters. So would this even pass as melodic DnB?

It's obviously still a work in progress, the mixdown isn't over, the arrangement will take some more work..

I'd like to see feedback on the sound in general, particularly about the drums. Not the arrangement(will work on that), but the quality of the sound, because I don't have proper monitors.

Of course, all other types of criticism is always welcome. :)

composition sounds pretty good but the drums sound...cheap. need some more processing applied and tighten them up a bit to make em a bit more snappy/punchy.

that or get some new drum samples :)

you know.

Some really good orchestration here, I get the feeling you have a good sense of composition and creating soundscapes.

The time sig of the drums seems worng to me, and the piano and drums somehow fight one another due to this.

To make quality D&B you better be willing to go to some legnths to get the drums right. I find a lot of D&B pros are in a special little league when it comes to those D&B drums. The snare sound you have is ok, but you can make a better one. It needs bang and attack grit and just the right room reverb.

So far not a bad overall sound, but get your imagination flowing to really warp and mangle those sounds here n there and keep everything moving with automation.

I'm being a little of a ntask master here, but I think you have the ability thats why I think you should push on.

Cheers for now Vernon.

Yeah, the drums were my biggest concern, this is where my inexperience comes into place. I'll do a complete re-do of all things drums and see what happens. Word

Thanks for the comment. The thing is I'm not experienced enough in production either yet. That combined with little knowledge of the genre and you get a track like this. :D
I will keep working with this genre, I dig it a lot.

I am aware that things sound pretty static at this stage, will work on that.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this, this is what it looks like in the first bar(the kick never changes):
code:
|K--K|----|--K-|----| - Kick |----|S--S|-S--|S---| - Snare |H-L-|H-L-|H-L-|H-L-| - Piano - Higher note, lower note

Which of the hits is causing problems?

Again, thank you both for taking the time to listen & comment, appreciated! :)
