Can anyone lend an ear here? In this track past 1:45 or so there is a fast, rolling bass. My ear is still pretty inexperienced and I'm trying to figure out if a full 16th note pattern is being used ala:
X---X---X---X---
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
or:
X---X---X---X---
-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx
It sounds to me as if each 16th is being hit, but I'm unsure. Most tutorials I've seen are leaving a hole for the kick. A problem I'm having is when I try to emulate the 2nd style I typed, the "hole" in the bassline for the kick is very noticeable, even if I use a fairly short envelope sound.
The song I posted there has an effect of sounding as if the bassline does not stop for the kick, so I'm curious what might be used here if it's not a full 16th pattern. Thanks for any input |

Lower te volume of the bass notes doubling the kick. Done. |

Or sidechain the full 16th note pattern to the kick with a fast attack and fairly fast release for a similar effect. |

sidechaining or leaving out the first note has the same effect. bassically frees up space for the kick.
id suggest layering a mid and a sub, have the the sub have this pattern:
X---X---X---X---
-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx
and the midbass like this
X---X---X---X---
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
