This is just to give you guys an idea of what I'm talking about. It converges dangerously close to adult-contemporary-easy-listening-jazz. It's for a song which is very much in development and I'm probably going to scrap the lead for one which fits in better with a more developed rhythm section. Still, I'm kind of proud of it.
I don't want to be solipsistic about this so, please, feel free to contribute your own improvisations. I'm curious to see if anyone can figure out how I got the lead sound, too. Feel free to rip any aspect of this to shreds or worse...

just isn't the same without the wanker faces players make. Guitar with a dual cam set up. one on your head, and another and like the general area. And a wank metre. Which goes past 10 at one point and like the screen has some stock animations put in where flames come from your guitar / piano and speakers.

I usually improvise on the keyboard if there is a specific purpose. Improvised melodies in EDM generally mean disaster, and you are better off quantized. However, there are cases where the sounds are meant to float above the rhythm and not necessarily interact with it.
For example, I improvised the piano playing here over top of this deep trancey track around 1:30, but still dragged a few notes here and there and adjusted a few velocities for the notes.

Nope. I wish I had the talent, let alone the guitar. This was made using my Yamaha PSR-170. Didn't even make a wanker face, although it did take a number of passes to get my result. But thanks.

I actually really like that tune but I always like hearing your stuff.
Re: Quantization
If you click my sig, the second song I excised from Superstition's source has a piano improve that was definitely quantized. I'm trying to utilize more groove functions, in general, and did not quantize the lead for the sample above. Even if I had quantized it with a groove, I think it would have wrecked it (not that it isn't wrecked but...). One complaint about EDM, which I think has some merit, is that a lot of producers rely a little too much on technology to ensure precision.
One "rule" I try to operate by is that, at its essence, EDM is music made with computers and it should therefor be as pristine as possible. Glaring inaccuracy - a note sounding in the wrong place or a vocal pitched incorrectly against the music - is hardly permissible. As you noted, there are exceptions but I'm beginning to think that there's a target with precision that can't be guaranteed with quantization or groove templates and its up to us to get dirty with keyboarding ability and make it happen, regardless of the technology. Not to say that I won't go and do some editing now and then but I still want to be a better musician than I am.

Oh, surprise, surprise, the forum retard has posted yet another link that he found on the Internet. Here's a news flash, dumbass: EZ has more talent and has completed more songs than you ever will (zero by all counts). Maybe if you spent less time surfing the web, you might actually have an original thought of your own for once.
