Hey guys,
I have a big dilemma.
I`m looking for a new laptop i would like to use for music production only (ableton + lots of soft synth and fxs) , and i`m not sure what to buy.
It will be used only in studio, not on road or something like that. It will sit on a laptop stand permanetly.
The ideea is that i have a limited bugget and i`m not sure i want to go with a macbookpro right not, cause like many others out there, i`m not feeling ok paying double for a mac. Yes.. i know they worth every penny.
I just found 4 laptops with same specs, but... with different prices.
First of all i was impressed by :
1. Notebook Dell N5110 i7 2670QM 640GB 4GB GT525M ,wich has a good price, and the cheapest of them all. 625EURO , this is my 1st option , and to be sincerre, my only option. I had an inspiron 1521, for more than 3years, and no problems at all... of course because its amd cpu, it has some heathing problems, and overloading in ableton... but served me well.
I intead to buy this laptop (N5110 with above specs) and double the ram making it 8GB , and installing an vertex3 ssd ocz 120gb hdd. So the price for all of this will be 880EURO.
2. Laptop Dell XPS L502x i7 2670QM 500GB 4GB GT540M
price: 1064euro
3. Notebook Lenovo ThinkPad T520 i7 2630QM 500GB 4GB NVIDIA WIN7
price: 1435euro
4. Apple MacBook Pro 15 Quad Core 2.2GHz 750GB 4GB HD6750M
price: 2160euro
Here is the comparation of all 4 products side by side

all being said, i`m asking your opinion, is it my plan a great plan!? buying the cheap dell with same specs and improve ram and hdd.
comparing all the products, is the laptop choosed by me at last good as the other or better?!
PROS/CONS?
waiting your replies
bests,

the things you are saving on are usually things that will affect you. Cheaper chips for certain components, which will make audio a nightmare, will last 1 day past the warranty. I don't want to say mac just because it is mac but for pcs , i think you really need to find someone with a rock solid setup. And just copy that. And not just one person. Find a few people with the same spound card., and that computer and pm them if you can. PEople do lie or exagerate their systems. Like say ma cpeople that say it doesn't crash. It does. But the virus issue on a laptop, i mean you will be using the wireless, so you will be running a virus program. So any spec is subject to the crippling software you might have to run. |

well... great processor, great ram, great ssd hdd, i dont really need anything else. the question is, why would i pay double/triple for something else.
i dont mind the bulky quality, of the dell.. |

If it's never going to move from it's spot I see no reason at all to use a laptop. They're almost always useless for audio, especially compared to a similarly priced desktop. Unless it's a MBP that is.
For your budget you could get a decent dedicated audio PC. |
