Getting a good synth string patch

I love the string sounds in this track:

They sound synthetic to me. But I have never been able to get a string sound very close to that using a synth. Any tips on making good synth string patches?

there might not even be strings in that sample.

you have to remember saws resemble strings harmonically speaking. i wouldnt be surprised if it was mostly saws and even just a bit of strings mixed in(perhaps thats what you meant by op, sorry if so). no im not gonna try replicating it :p. i would mix in strings with saw work though.

Well, whatever you like to call them. Stringy sawy things.

I am not asking anyone to replicate it for me, although I would still be impressed if someone could get really close.

That has the noise cranked right up and I wouldn't be surprised if it was layered with white noise. Omnisphere can do this quite well.

Good timing. I have just been playing with synth strings the past couple days.

If you have a synth like Z3ta 1 or 2, try 4 saws and mangle a couple of them with the waveshaping, add a noise osc, chorus/phase and filter to level/taste. It has a ton of free and pay presets available with many string patches you can learn from and tweak to your heart's content. Paywise, the three Trance Euphoria banks are great. It also layers well with filtered saws from the Jupiter 8V for variety.

Throw in a small bit of Magnus Choir or choir samples under them and you are standing at the Pearly Gates ;)

Sounds like a mixture of real/sampled strings (in the top end) and standard detuned saws in the bottom (low passed). I think the saws are pitch modulated with an LFO a little as well. Most likely bussed together and run through a reverb as well.
