iTunes compressed AAC sounds like a$$...

Hello everyone!
I recently signed up here to tranceaddict.com because I am a lover of electronic music. I am curious to see who else agrees with me that listening to music in uncompressed audio formats such as WAV and AIFF REALLY makes a difference when it comes to sound quality, regardless of the song you are listening to. I've been using iTunes for almost 5 years, and it's only been since recently that I've discovered how much money I've wasted (well, not entirely "wasted") on the crappy AAC music the iTunes store has to offer. Beatport and Discogs are far more efficient music stores. I am just a bit peeved, because some of the music I want isn't available in uncompressed formats. I'm assuming that because iTunes is so mainstream, most people don't care about sound quality, seeing as iTunes can fool you into thinking their music doesn't suck with their HQ store previews (God help those who get their music with the YouTube converter).
I'm sure everyone already knows this, but it's a real bummer when you finally figure out that you've been sorta ripped off for a long time. |

I have WAV + AAC on several albums, I can't hear the difference. I listen to them with http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_...iophileQ40.html and http://www.logitech.com/en-us/ue/ue...ces/TripleFi-10 (whether they're good or not, I don't know). |

Hmm... I suppose everyone's ears are different. I use Bose headphones, despite the current trend with Beats by Dr. Dre, which IMO, are awful. |

| man I bought 2 albums off the iTunes store back in 2005, and those were copy protected .m4a files that you needed to log in to listen to. Can't even copy them to another drive. Total waste of time and money. |

2005? an app called "jhymn" strips the protection off of "older" iTunes music. |

Meriter, I'm sure that sucked for you. I hate DRM with a passion.
Also, to Eurofix, I'm sure it does. I remember when I was younger, my household used to play CDs, and I always wondered why it sounded better than when I'd use my iHome (which I retired long ago).
It's kind of obvious why that is, now. :rolleyes: |

Adam420, I'm picky. I listen to all different kinds of music, but I'm mainly into electro house, indie dance/nu disco, and trance, of course. I think that electronic music is the most advanced form of music.
Salegon, I agree with you. I just use iTunes so I have a place to store my music on my computer. I'm sorta moving on from it now. |
