Hi everyone,

I've been working on improving my sound design skills over Christmas, as well as trying out NI's Reaktor ensemble, 'Razor', an additive synth which I bought myself for Christmas. I'm making a progressive house/trance track using the above, as well as Reason 6 (Thor and Redrum) and Omnisphere and Sylenth. I think it's coming together quite nicely :)

Thanks everyone for giving the track a listen, I'm hopeful about this one! :)

Darek,

I'm honestly pretty stoked that you like this track so much, I'd love for this to be my proper 'breakthrough' track, the elements you have identified as being important in a big track are what I had been pondering on before I started it. This track is influenced by Tritonal's production style, Dinka's stabs and my own style of trying to create atmosphere. I also decided it was absolutely vital to come up with a memorable, simple riff, and it took me many attempts to actually come up with the one in the clip above. Actually the riff started out more complicated, but I ended up just removing some notes in the piano roll and decided I really liked what I was left with. The best riffs are always the simplest I think.

I wanted to make it sound really lush too, with lots of width and depth, and interesting things to hear going on, like BT used to do, so I'm glad that that seems to have worked. Thanks for your comments on SoundCloud, I really was excited to read them.

I'll keep you updated with what happens to this track - fingers crossed!

I wish people who calling themselves producers will spend more time working on melodic/catchy part, that element which connect with people, get to their brains and stays there, forcing them to whistle this parts of your track and drive them nuts lol lol lol.

Believe me, we have so much crap release on the market (since everyone can create/open their label) that people get very frustrated with the direction and the stage of the music development. New and upcoming producers think that if they develop their new and unique style/sound they become famous overnight and will be top 10 on billboard instantly lol lol lol.

Music is still the art and don't forget that art is about creation, connection, playing with people emotions/feelings and just to develop new sound or style is not going to replace those few basic elements.

Your track has those few basic but special element at this moment, to become the "ONE" in 2012 and what you do with it or how you going to develop farther this production will determinate faith of this track.

Good luck my friend!!!!!

Cheers,

Darek

Thank you. I agree with everything you've said. I've worked on the track some more today and I think it's half done now....

Hi, thanks for listening :) I'm not sure exactly what you mean with 'plug sound', if you can be specific (a time in the track when it's prominent?) I can help more. The synths I've used in this track, in order of how many instances, are:

Sylenth1
Razor (Reaktor)
Omnisphere
Thor (Reason 6)
Alchemy Player

The bass line is made of 4 components, 2 of them Sylenth and 2 Razor. The lead melody is 1 Thor and then 1 Thor and 1 Omnisphere together. Pads are Omnisphere and Alchemy Player. The big chords are 4 layers of Sylenth.

Thanks. :)

I was talking about the chord pluck sound at the very beginning of the track (which also plays at the end of the track)

I'm guessing its the 4 instances of sylenth1?

Hey,

Yeah, it is 4 instances of Sylenth, although you wouldn't have to have 4 to get that sound. The top layer has 1 of its 4 oscillators tuned down 5 semitones and one of them tuned up 7 semitones, 2 of its oscillators are saw waves and the other 2 are square waves. The other 3 pluck Sylenths are using saw waves and a quick attack on the envelope which controls the low pass filter cutoff. There is also a moog style saw bass coming from Sylenth playing the root note of the chords. To be honest you could probably do it with 3 instances, instead of the 5 I've used in total.
