I originally put this mix together for a mix contest. It did not win, but I enjoyed the music in this mix so much that I decided to share it here on my website. It really expresses the groovy dark music that I’ve been into as of late. There are some spectacular vocal moments and some melodic transitions that I’m really proud of… especially the transition between Hazel and Rendezvous, which lasts over the span of a few minutes.

The thing that you might find surprising about this mix is the amount of energy it has for its tempo. It starts at around 118 BPM and ends at around 123, but it really chugs along and makes me want to dance. Hopefully you’ll enjoy this mix as much as I enjoyed putting it together. It clocks in at exactly 50 minutes (the maximum amount of time allowable for the contest it was originally intended for). The collection of tracks isn’t particularly old or new, it’s just some good groovin’.

Funky as hell, great mix :D Wish it was longer though. You need to do more mixes, seriously.

Thanks! Like I said, 50 minutes was the max I was allowed for the contest it was originally intended for. One of these days I want to put together a 2+ hour mix and put it up somewhere.

my guess is because the tracks you used offer very little in terms of surprise and are all pretty well known anthems almost. not too many surprises for people that follow this type of music just looking at the track list. I could be wrong of course.

I'll give it a go all of the same. My guess is that you picked only really well known stuff to appeal to the contest? curious.

Hm, well there wasn't any intent with the tracklist at all, really. Just played songs that I liked and that I thought worked well together. To be honest, I didn't realize that the entire tracklist was well-known enough to be ignored, nor did I really consider any of them anthemic. I just put a set together. :) Anyway, that being said... I really look forward to your feedback coming from that perspective... should be enlightening either way.
