| By the way, I wonder what these HUGE names are he is speaking off. I don't think any of the Trance jocks that have been around for a very long time actually stands behind the music he produces/plays these days. |

I feel it is possible to define what "true" trance is (as opposed to whatever is simply labelled as "trance", the style of music). It all comes down to function: is the music made for the moment or is it made for an eternity? Plenty of "trance" is simply pop music; the distinction I'd make is between music of immediate gratification and music of depth and spirit. Where anyone else draws the line is a matter of personal opinion... and whether J00F has any right to claim the mantle of "true trance" is not for me to say... but for me this is what constitutes grounds to make such a claim.

As well, too many 'Trance' DJs are playing the SAME tracks -- years ago it was more about having a distinct sound... I guess part of the "journey" discussion -- now, with smaller sets, DJs(/producers) just want to play/promote their own productions(or those of their label) leaving less diversity/experimentation in sets. I used to enjoy it when the more popular DJs went outside their main genre and incorporated some Techno/Breaks/etc. in their sets.... now many play it safe... or play a random dubstep tune that does NOT flow at all. |

As for myself, I am doing my part to keep the genre from becoming stale and homogeneous, and I remain committed to the concept of the set as a journey. |

j00f def has a great vision as for the worst of the storm being behind us now, i def feel it's at the same level it has been for the past few months...not much improvement
-labels still putting out crap
-dj's just playing hits
-everyone jumping on the trouse and mash-up bandwagon
etc etc
i really liked that blog from airwave, iam very happy to see he is on board as far as how he see's how much the scene has changed
iam really looking foward to his new album, some of the samples he posted are pretty sweet also that track trinidad flashback...WOW deep emotional proper prog trance
hopefully these guy's will continue to put out great music and inspire other producer's and dj's to help make the scene it once was |

I live in London, ten years ago the city was packed with underground Trance nights, I could go clubbing from Friday all the way to Monday none stop. I used to see Flemming every Sunday at Sunnyside up.
There's hardly anything here now. Lucky to get a good Trance night once a month. Ministry of sound is a joke.

Hi Everyone, many thanks for your huge response, we'll get back to all the emails ASAP. I don't want to turn this into a hate campaign, it's not. As with specialist cars, bikes, boats etc, they have clubs for likewise enthusiasts to be able chat and find information on their hobby/passion. As things stand we don't have that.
It's impossible to cover all angles with blogs. I'm not trying to split Trance in two, I'm not hating other DJ's around me, I'm actually super close friends with A&B, Armin etc. It would be stupid to dislike any person because they don't like the same music, so its not a hate campaign and you can quash that one. It's simply a 'club' for likeminded Trance lovers. Naturally some people wont understand or get it, I don't expect them too. I'm looking to attract the people who do get it.
I'm no leader. My style of Trance isn't the bible and should never be. I'm not looking to bring the great sound of 2000 back, that should be left as part of history. I get a hit from finding new groundbreaking music to play in my sets, unfortunately that pot is very small, it's getting ever increasingly difficult to find good quality music. Hopefully this idea will uncover some gems of tracks, producers and DJ's. These are the people who will lead the specialist scene forward, not me, I'm just a DJ who plays their music. |

I like what J00f is saying, he has a point, and hes one of the few out there with a ing backbone.
I think that the DJs/Producers need to stop giving a about the "new generation" and their short attention span, yeah they're the new audience(among the rest more experienced) but who are they to guide change in the scene when they know nothing about it or its history and where it is going, i feel like our Scene has been diluted and derailed and it keeps straying off because every one is trying to "please the crowd, and new masses". Do what you gotta do, be true to the music and the ones that are worthy will stay.
The scene shouldn't change for the newcomers, the newcomers need to change to enter the scene, if it is the scene they love. These days i don't see anybody research, look deeper into the music, they just follow the big names and only take what they're fed in sets that are out there whoring the same old tracks. |

I like how the guy's speaking of resurrecting trance by means of experimentation and some next-level production wizardry like he's forgetting what kind of limited, not to mention exhausted, niche style he's talking about the whole time. I'm really interested to see how the will he and his friends reinvent the genre and push the boundaries now the evil commercial producers that obstructed them the whole time are gone. Shorten the breakdowns and make thicker basslines? And why the hell is he talking and not doing ?
Sorry for the lack of enthusiasm, but the best you can do here is bring back some of the less demanding audience who felt appalled with current state of this music and turned to tech house or something. Present (and future) of electronic music is certainly not in trance or any other specific genre for that matter. People who want something exciting and fresh these days are looking the other way where producers of all kinds of different backgrounds and intentions have crushed down all the barriers and limitations, and are now making all of their wildest ideas come true. |

He has done plenty. He has resurrected Platipus Records behind the scenes, he has got names like Airwave producing again, and DJing far better than they used to, he has supported unknown DJs and he has pushed the J00F Editions clubnight worldwide, booking talented local supports and demonstrating to promoters worldwide how a well-programmed club night with less DJs and more emphasis on musical journey can be very successful and make money. Not to mention signing, playing and supporting a lot of good music that wouldn't get any attention without a name of his size behind it.
This is my point - this guy has done more than anyone else in the scene to put his money where his mouth is, but that gets completely overlooked because he keeps repeating the same rants we're all over-familiar with, and keeps talking about "pure trance" and musical experimentation, which invites criticisms of purism and ill-founded elitism. |

| I'm not really a big fan of some of the newer things on john's label and have moved on from trance a lot to the point where I don't listen to much of it (new) these days but there's one guy who posts on here too who puts up amazing sets which imho are 'pure' trance, Jon Cockle. Listening to his Entropy V set over & over, it's just perfect for what in my opinion trance 'is' |
