That was part one of the show? I thought it was a big commercial for the series! The editing is way too fast WTF. It's obviously catered towards the short attention spans of his fans.

At the end of the day, he must be doing something right to stay on top, attract sell out crowds and have people follow him around the world.

it all makes sense if you realize that most people are sheep, bandwagoners and into hype in just about everything.

I also think Tiesto could make a career out of doing Arnold impressions...

Really? How is a Tiesto fan any different from a Digweed fan or John OO Fleming fan or Lee Foss fan?

All three would probably travel to see their respective "IDOL" and all three would claim that their DJ is the number 1.

Am i not a sheep of John OO Fleming for following his music closely and for taking deep interest his musical taste?

I'm an EDM snob and I don't deny it. ;) However, my taste in music is no more valid than other peoples.

You and I have spent years listening to EDM, and at least we can claim to make a more informed choice about our taste in EDM.

If you ask a typical Tiesto/Guetta/AVB or any other popular mainstream DJ fans, 95% of them will have generic answer to why they like Tiesto, like because he's good, or he plays good tunes, or he's popular, etc.

I wonder how many of these people know history of Tiesto, and can say that they like Tiesto based upon his career, from Magik Journey to ISOS to his current stuff. How many of these people can actually name one Tiesto tune?

There is nothing wrong with simple, uncomplicated answers. After all, even to the most snob of us, any EDM has to appeal to us at basic instinct level. But I find that most Tiesto fans give answers like a kindergarten kid would; simple and uncomplicated.

Yet we hear a lot of stories of people starting off with Tiesto/Armin or other mainstream DJs and moving off to expand their EDM tastes. It's after they get 'educated' in EDM. And I bet you most can give a more complicated answer than a mainstream DJ fan to why they like their choice of EDM. Again, no more valid than a mainstream fan's answer, but their answer would be more 'informed'.

The reason why we get more mainstream EDM fans than more 'underground' fans is accessibility. If we stick a group of EDM noobs in a room, and play them a set by Tiesto and Digweed without telling them, I'd bet the ratio of people who enjoys Tiesto or Digweed would be closer than what people would expect. If you ask this group why they enjoy Tiesto more than Digweed's set or vice versa, you'd get that same simple answers; because they think it's good or something to that effect. So you can get a bunch of EDM noobs who prefers Digweed over Tiesto. It's just you get more Tiesto fans because he's more popular and more accessible. (Plus Tiesto has one helluva marketing team)

So my conclusion that a lot of Tiesto fans are 'sheep', (at least the recent Tiesto fans) because they make an EDM decision without being informed. They are attracted to the hype and popularity, and only after being exposed to EDM for a while, they can form a bit more informed taste in EDM.

Again, I'm not claiming my taste in EDM is more valid than that of a noob EDM lover. But I can claim that I have 20 years of listening to EDM, and my tastes are a lot more informed, based upon those years of experience.

Frak. Migraine and long posts do not mix well :p

Exactly what I was thinking. I thought it was supposed to be somewhat "reality-based" on his whole life? :conf:
