2 monitors

I bought some Yamaha HS 20m for my girlfriends party as i didn't want to waste money on a hifi system. I use genelec 1029 the old boxy ones with a sub and i'm very happy. But say if i were to try the yamaha,s how would I place them ? I just don't see room. Don't really want to change them as the yamahas are just way too loud. The bass that comes out of these things is nutty.
Any novel ways to arrange monitors ? Like a stand that fits 2 ? or some sort of method.

and old pic but the monitors haven't changed. The problem is I can't move the genelecs in because the table is in the way. But if i could find some clever way, and have the yamahas i don't know.
Or is horizontal my only real option here. |

What about putting some thick MDF across the two speaker stands (or is that stuff banned in the US?) You'd then have a shelf to put things on.
Not sure if it'd reverberate though, and it wouldn't be perty. |

i wonder how it would change relfections. I mean if it is right above my screens. ALmost flush.

If the stands are sturdy enough you could always try and fix a larger platform to the top and place both monitors on each stand. |

they are filled with cement. ACtually i think just a little plank extending the total area. The stands are solid despite being cheap. Fill anything with cement and ya. |

This is off-topic but I always thought it would be a great idea to have a gutted-out car that you could sit in and monitor your tracks through it's ty factory system. Like section off a corner of your studio and put a car in it. Most people will be listening to your music on the road anyway (or those ty ipod earbuds but screw them) Could even record some highway noise and play it along with your track to get a better idea of what elements get buried
disclaimer: this idea might be really stupid, I haven't had coffee yet and I'm kinda hungover |

do you mean HS80? They need alot of space to work imo, i turned them back and got genelecs instead. |

Firstly, welcome back Palm! Where you been hiding?
I think you mean Hs50s Richie. The plank isn't a bad idea but there's something else you can do...
Check out this thread first:

Basically you could make custom table mounted speaker stands by screwing the flange in to the table, just behind you screens, then use pipe to take it to the right level, then another flange and a platform made of MDF (exactly the size of the monitor footprint). Spray them to taste. |

Be interested to see how you get on with them in that space.
Mine are on mopads on stands and the room layout, size and treatment will be all but identical to that in a couple of months. |

Oh . Well, if anything then, I would put the Hs80's on the stands you already have, then the Gene's just inside them of them. The Hs80's are larger and have more bass response and traditionally, the larger the speaker the broader the placement needs to be to get the most out of the stereo spread and bass response.
That would certainly be a nice A/B setup though. |
