Hey, what do you guys think?
I usually do all of my writing on guitar, and then sequence it with some nice synth sounds.
When I get some recording equipment, I'd like to add some rhythm distorted guitar around 0:10 - 0:20,

First of all, it's a neat change to hear a more rock inspired song on this forum. I for one like just about any genre of music as long as it is a good song, that too paraphrase Bill Hicks has been played from the heart.
Mixing issues and drums issues were what came to me immediately and consistently both times I listened to it. The kick sample is weeeaaak and ill fitting in my opinion. There also might be too much kick, however, I suppose some rock songs with a double kick have a lot of it. With a better kick drum the rhythm might work.
I like the spirit of the song though! The guitar sounded good from a playing standpoint, maybe a bit mono though from a sound standpoint. I am not so familiar with recording live instruments but it is my understanding they are often recorded in mono.
Like a lot of producers, it isn't the melodies that are problem in this song, it is the mixing and engineering. The ability to create a melody is a gift which some people with never have, so you have won a battle there. |

I'm still new to the production/recording side of music, so it's much appreciated.
I'll play around with the mix a little more, particularly those kicks, and see what I can come up with. |
