Just been having a look through the mybeatport on my prog account...
Usually this section of my life utterly revolts me and I haven't really paid it much attention, apart from a periodic browse to a dark place. In this dark place, you become exposed to a sensory overload of complete and utter dog .
However, I've just filled my cart with 30 tunes, and I'm only on page 3.
Could swear it wasn't like this last time I checked?

I disagree. Two years ago things were pretty much at their worst, after a massive lull from around 2008 onwards. Things had been bad for a few years, but at least before then you could still get good tracks, fairly consistently.
I know that there have been little bits and pieces coming out for the past couple of years, but there is blatantly much more about just now.
I've just went through 15 days worth of releases and found around 40+tracks.

I'm really sorry. I was actually trying to be helpful so that you wouldn't do irksome things that irritated other members. Now, however, I realize that I probably didn't word it very politely. I was short, to the point, and matter of fact, where as I should have been more deferential and obsequious.
Please, forgive my intransigence, however it was precisely in the spirit of welcoming hospitality when I submitted you should embed the videos, without instruction. Embedding has been around a really long time but not every forum is coded to handle it. I foolishly presumed you had the requisite know-how to copy the embed code from the source page and paste that within the body of your post. I honestly did not want to insult your intelligence, telling you how to do something most people take for granted. Had I bothered to read the second post, I may have been able to discern that you had a relatively benign mental impairment requiring extra consideration and assistance.
Please forgive me. We want to make trance-addict.com a welcoming place for everyone, including those in the special needs adult-care community. It would be counter-productive not to include as many members of different communities as we possibly can, as everyone here loves to share good music. Thank you very much for your feedback. Sure there's more now but I'd say this resurgence has been happening for the last 2 years or so. Trust me, unlike you I've been keeping up.

This. I thought the same as well until about a year ago, when I actually caught up with the genre along with prog breaks. Quit looking at Anjunadeep for them.

To answer the OP: I don't think that decent progressive house ever went away. You say that you thought things were at their worst after 2008, but in 2009 I had a personal revelation much like yours, and made a couple of very popular mixes that I shared on TA (Regressive House and Close Your Eyes) to show people the quality was still there. And since then I've gone back and trawled a lot, and there was lots of stuff in 2006-2008 as well that was absolutely fantastic. There were definitely a few years, around that period, where melodic electronic music was totally unpopular and that stuff was totally ignored and seemingly non-existent, but it was out there somewhere.
Personally, I've got a bit burned out on progressive recently. I mean, I made a progressive house mix not long ago which is in my sig, but I don't listen to this stuff as much as I used to. I get a bit tired of hearing one genre all the time, and there was definitely a little spell where I binged on the prog and needed some time away from it. So I go on Beatport now and I don't get enthused by progressive. That's definitely all down to personal perspective though. I think that's true for you as well - it's never that this stuff didn't exist, it's just you didn't find it, or you went off it.
With that said, I think melodic dance music is definitely coming back a bit. Progressive (and trance) seems to be more visible these days. I don't know if it's getting better but it's getting a little more popular, without getting near the level of over-exposure it had around 2001-2002 that killed it off in the first place. I guess the problem is defining what "progressive house" is these days, because there are so many different sounds and records getting tagged like that it's really tough to talk about progressive in a general sense.
