The logical thing for them to do is offer the remaining 10k tickets to people/camps that have been/will be BRC approved and placed.

you are right. it was really their only option. Im more curious how they plan to sell tickets for 2013 after this years debacle.

Looks like they are going to directly distribute the final 10k tickets. Your only option at this point (if you are not a burner vet with a trak record) is the STEP program, or a low income ticket.

Yeah this was predictable but still really ing bad. It hurts for groups like mine who aren't part of an established group but wanted to get something new going (or really, expand upon an unregistered camp we had in 2010) and just don't have enough people with tickets.

The more I think about this the more depressed I am about the situation. I feel like I'm being forced back into tourist mode again after last year's sellout ed my whole camp. I'm pretty sick of it and don't want to go like that again in 2012.

ya we have had 45-50 burners in our camp the last 2 years. This year less than 10 of us got tickets. Im just going to make the most of it, but im sure its going to be a unique burn given that 50% of the tickets were handed to playa virgins.

without a doubt, themed camps, art projects, etc will be harder to put together moving forward given the scarcity of tickets the event will continue to experience.

i hope that after all the BS that has occurred that the true spirit of BM still comes through.

I passed on the 1st round of tix,
bid for a pair of tix in round 2 at price levels 1 and 2. I didn't bid on price level 3,
thinking if I didn't get a ticket in round 2, I could still pay the level 3 price in round 3.

FAIL.

note: I was really only 30% on going this year, but is now more 50/50.

I just honestly can't see people who have never been, paying $600.
That's a huge risk, when you don't even know if you are going to enjoy it.

We basically need to see what percent of the purchases went to scalpers, or burners
who can't resist the profit temptation.

$600 for a single ticket or 2?

well they were going for $650 for 1 on stubhub before this announcement...now $999+.
Obviously these are ticket agency prices

BM organization did some research on tickets available online through scalpers. They concluded that there are only about 200-300 tickets on sale online, out of 40k tickets.

Their conclusion, 45-50% of the tickets went to first time burners. Thats about 20k first timers.

The integrity of the event relies so heavily on veterans, this is why they are cancelling the second round of sales and directly distributing them to the veteran burners.

I've only been once (last year), but having been very familiar with BM as I could be without ever have going (friends that go regularly, ountless photos/stories, participation with many theme camps' events outside BM, e.g. Opulent, Space Cowboys, Distrikt), I didn't feel like a newby, but appreciated the high number of people who have been through BM at least once who you meet before, during, etc.

That being said, I'd fear going to BM with 40% or more newbies...yeah there is the whole educate thing, but just worries me. The right decision (if you go) is to probably go as early as possible in the week, but leave before the vibe turns over on the weekend. I can't imagine the majority of newbies going that early. Like me, I wanted to tippy-toe in. I did 5 nights, but I could easily see a lot of people doing just 3-4 of the last days/nights or the long weekend...besides I liked it much more earlier on when you are building stuff, helping people out, seeing BRC develop...vs. just arriving and seeing everything already ready and partying it up.

Completely agree. monday-thursday are the best days. many lose their minds by friday and saturday. The construction of the city across the week is the best part about the experience. However, I dont want to sit in line for 8 hours on sunday evening. We plan to arrive monday afernoon/evening.
