What's up with all these parties getting sold out so fast?

I first tried to buy floor tickets to Rage Against the Machine @ The Coliseum and they sold out in the blink of an eye. Then I tried to buy Coachella tickets and they sold out in the blink of an eye. Burning Man tickets are practically sold out and Beyond Wonderlands tickets are selling like hotcakes!
Man I guess this is getting popular! Or those damn scalpers are making money! |

Probably both. If there's an opportunity to make money, people will take advantage of it. Welcome to America! |

if i offered up apple stock at the price they sold for initially back in 1980(inflation adjusted) would you not want to buy?
EDM stock, i mean show tickets are a guarantee to go up in price, with the exception of tickets at bottom feeder clubs like circus that actually have a track record of lowering prices as event date nears.
I remember,
I remember,
Back in fall 2010 buying some tickets to kaskade at the warfield @ $30, and the stock price went way up. Because im such a nice guy I exchanged 3 tickets with a huge kaskade at $125/ticket. made his day, if i was greedy $150+ could have been had. |

| strangely enough, in bad economic times events actually sell out quicker. i don't remember what it is, but i did read an article about it a few years back |

| I wouldn't compare tickets to stocks. Stocks are meant to be bought as investments. Tickets are meant to be bought by fans of the artist to see them perform. |

There are many industries that thrive during a recession. Alcohol sales typically increase, cash advance operations flourish, and apparently concerts and raves do to. However big promoters like insomniac have less competition these days I feel. They have really carved out the market and smaller promoters like fresh, are not doing many of the smaller parties that use to pop up every single weekend. I believe this is why you now see a rave called something wonderland every other month now.
That reminds me....why cant pasqual bring lineups more alomg the lines of electric forest to his west coast festivals????? |

just as joshuallen said... it's because people are unhappy and need to be entertained. the movie business, stars, and big productions boomed during the 1930's during the depression, for example. so yup, this makes sense. |

Just saw a segmenta on the news (ABC7 in SF) with Stubhub talking about how they know for a fact that ticket providers (eg. ticketmaster?), promoters, and venues themselves hold back tickets to sell on sites like Stubhub at highly inflated prices...and don't genuinely release all the tickets to the public at regular price.
Don't you find it odd how tickets just appear on Stubhub the second they go on sale to the regular public? They even found cases where the tickets were on sale on Stubhub the day before they became available to the public.
Ticketmaster's statement says scalpers use illegal means to buy tickets in bulk to sell at highly inflated prices...sure that's a part of it, but certainly not all. |

yeah, exactly. i've run into people i've met around school at the most random events. without fail, they have no idea who's playing or where they are, but they generally seem to enjoy themselves.
I saw the same girl who tried to get me to go see skrillex with her and her friends last weekend at that benoit&sergio warehouse party about 2 months back. blew my mind. |
