I was thinking of using Ableton Live. But which midi enabled mixer is fully compatible to it?

Thanks but i meant normal dj-enabled mixers.

Any of them? You can assign midi to anything.

But why buy an expensive audio mixer if you are just using mixing within the software of ableton? What are you trying to do?

The only thing on the market that really lets you use the audio portion of the mixer, and has enough midi control to really be useful in Ableton is the Xone 4D.

If you intend on going "all in" with ableton, the APC-40 or Vestax 600 is perfect. Otherwise you are looking at an audio mixer, and some controllers outboard, like the Novation launchpad.

There are too many configurations possible to say which one is best.

One other thing to add... one big reason to mix INSIDE of ableton, is because you aren't limited by audio channels. If you use a DJ mixer and mix outside of ableton, you are really limited to 4 channels for a 4 channel mixer, etc.

Judging by the majority of his queries, trying to make his life as complicated as possible.

I've used my Traktor S4 on ableton before. Works a treat, I'm not too clever on ableton (Got it but don't use it very often) by mate done all the mappings (I think that's the term) only took him 5-10 mins and it was a good change. Just need to select what you want each button to do.

^ how do the jog wheels work with ableton?

Not sure if you can get the jogwheels to work to be honest, sure we didn't use them which takes away alot of the fun.
