Hi all.. first time I've rally posted anything in here, thought I'd post up a recent track I made as I'd like to try and get some thoughts and ideas from others here on how I can improve my work. I know I've still got some way to go before I would bother trying to send stuff to labels but I do think I'm improving, I know this is probably a bit generic for some people's tastes though.
What started out as a progressive house track ended up quite trancy. You'll probably be able to tell I don't have a proper studio with monitors or anything, trying to make do with what I have for now.
Anyway I'd appreciate any feedback.

I would really feel comfortable working with what you have so far man, a lot of cool FX, slowly forming but nice melody line and some pretty sweet sound selection I can find at this moment. The part which I'm not sold yet is overall blend or gluing in this track, what I mean is that I can hear a few bit different sounding parts in your production which for me will have to blend more naturally/organically together to make this fully enjoyable and lasting impact of well develop structurally and melodically production.

I hope that you can get a right massage from my comment lol, if not, I will try to elaborate a bit more.

Cheers,

Darek

Cheers for the response Darek, I think I understand where you're coming from, some of the sounds could probably gel together a bit more nicely, especially the leads I'm thinking.
I didn't do an awful lot of processing of the sounds here as I'm a bit limited with my crappy cpu... (poor excuse..lol). But yeah I think you're right and that I could probably take the EQing a lot further to improve it and give the sounds a better sense of their own space.
Thanks for the insight. :)

Yeah, you got this right my friend, will try to go through it more tomorrow and see If I can give you a bit more or better info.

Cheers,

Yeah this is the right approach after going through your track again today. Let me know if you got any more development done to this production.

Have a good one my friend.

Thanks again mate. I'm going to be a bit busy over the next few days but I plan to do some work on it before the weekend.

That left pan ride on the open hat kind of kills the vibe. That part is a little too prominent (perhaps for my taste). I love pretty much everything else, but that part is a little overwhelming. It's also tonally out of key with the rest of your parts.
Teezdalien
Thanks for listening and your feedback Eddie. You're right, I'll also see what I can do about improving that too, it's also quite static sounding to me now... I might even replace that sample with something else. I'm not too surprised that you bought that up as I don't often take the time to really tune all my percussion unless there are obvious overtones that really need tuning. :)

Can't really comment on the mixdown since I'm on crappy laptop speakers now, but this is sounding extremely impressive. I'm not sure if the break needs to be quite that long though.
Teezdalien
Thanks for the feedback and the nice comment Nik, hoping the mixdown isn't too bad but I don't have a proper monitoring set-up myself yet so it's probably likely that there's some issues there. Darek and Eddie have also raised some valid points I'm intending to address, but yeah I'm quite happy with how it has come along for me so far. Will take another look at the structue/arrangement of the breakdown but not really sure if I can effectively shorten it...we'll see. :)

Nor should you if you're happy with it. Just my personal preference.

Ok guys I've made a few mix tweaks and done some extensive eqing of the parts to see if I can make it a bit more coherant, to be honest I really feel the difference is marginal and am starting to think it's more of a sound selection issue.
I've left the structure/arrangement as it was, as it will take me a bit of time to re-arrange and I don't think it would be really worth it. I also don't think I can make much more of an improvement on the sounds that I've gone with here, with the tools and experience I have but I'm more than happy to take some specific suggestions or advice on how else I could improve it. I'm thinking I'll just leave this as is now and bare any more criticism in mind for future works.
The update is in the OP and the download is also 320 now. ;)
