| quote: | "Several studies indicate that dieting is actually a consistent predictor of future weight gain," said Janet Tomiyama, a UCLA graduate student of psychology and co-author of the study. One study found that both men and women who participated in formal weight-loss programs gained significantly more weight over a two-year period than those who had not participated in a weight-loss program, she said.
Another study, which examined a variety of lifestyle factors and their relationship to changes in weight in more than 19,000 healthy older men over a four-year period, found that "one of the best predictors of weight gain over the four years was having lost weight on a diet at some point during the years before the study started," Tomiyama said. In several studies, people in control groups who did not diet were not that much worse off — and in many cases were better off — than those who did diet, she said.
..."Diets are not effective in treating obesity," said Mann. "We are recommending that Medicare should not fund weight-loss programs as a treatment for obesity. The benefits of dieting are too small and the potential harm is too large for dieting to be recommended as a safe, effective treatment for obesity." |

So.. you've basically been doing Speed for a month (not crack) full of caffeine AND ephedrine and wondering why you're cranky? Here's my quick 30sec guide to weight loss-
1. Put down the fork you fatty
2. Get motivated not to be a fat bastard, failing that, report here for regular doses of anti-fat humiliation
3. Eat stuff that wont make you chubby and keep eating that way |

I could have sworn I already called multiple people here idiots for using those pills, yourself included. If I haven't already, you're an idiot.
Do what Lil said, then start counting calories. That's how you lose weight. |

Argh, for Christ's sake! Will you two give me some more credit and stop making assumptions with no background information whatsoever? Ephedrine?! Not counting calories?! Yeah, right, I'm also considering homoeopathy and prayer to see if I can slim down without any effort! :gsmile:
If you need more information, all you need to do is ask:- First of all, ephedrine is strictly forbidden in Brazil - I reckon getting crack cocaine would be easier. So, for all it's worth, I was taking caffeine, just caffeine, and nothing more than caffeine - and even then, half the recommended dosage a physiotherapist recommended me. See the word "recommended"? It's there. Twice! It's not like I walked up to some clueless twat (or worse yet, decided to do it on my own) and thought "Kewl, gonna munch up on these!". I made at least six months of research, and the only reason why I gave these pills a try is because they contain the equivalent of 2 cups of coffee and/or Coke a day... which isn't alarmingly excessive. Gave it a try, didn't like the results, thought it was interesting because for the first time in my life, something I took had an impact on my mood... and stopped.
I did as much research as I could, and I even asked for feedback here. The most convincing case I heard against these pills was that "I didn't need them". In case you forgot Fledz, no, you didn't call me an idiot - I did ask you about thermogenics and dieting in genral and, quoting you, all you said was "Caffeine boosts your metabolism where as the sugar gives you an insulin spike which makes you retain more fat". Had you called me an idiot then (which I believe means "Good morning" in your dialect, so I shrug it off) and given me good enough reasons, I wouldn't even have given it a shot, which brings me to the second points...
- Read my post: I mentioned caffeine, not liposuction. Of bloody course I'm working out and eating healthy - I'm following a diet recommended by a dietician (Really?! I need to count the calories?! You don't say! Do I also need to know what protein, carbs, and fibres are?!), running regularly, and going to the gym at least once a day. I'm not some sort of couch potato hoping these pills alone will make me fit overnight.
- Do a quick search, Lilith, and you'll find out that, even if I did lack the motivation to work out (which I don't), I did come here for support.
What's the matter with you people sticking to what's written on the screen!? |

Makes sense. People prone to gain weight are more likely to diet :p |

| I have a great way of maintaining my weight. I take these sticks that I inhale after their contents have been heated to a gaseous form. Sometimes they're a little harsh but they make me look cool. I have the opposite problem from Lira because when I stop taking them, I yell at people who are driving on the correct side of the road for being too compliant with traffic laws. |

No of course not.
Antagonising fatty, pill popper mexicans over the internet with barely veiled sarcasm until they snap in a meth rage of diatribe-a-dribble, makes this place just all that more amusing.
Yeah, chubby, I can hear your grinding those teeth into chalk from here! |

The fact that you even think I'm fat makes your reply so nonsensical it's not even funny. I'm slightly disappointed because I took you for someone with a brain, Lilith, but let's just move on then. |

Whooosh Lira :p
You may be three quarters cockney on some kind of scale, but your banter (and banter IDing) needs some work :p |

Its called 'banter' and you don't get it, so I'll stop because its only funny when both parties engage in it. As far as I remember, you really didn't need to lose weight or anything and it seemed patently silly to be going down the route you are.
Hasn't done much for your mood has it? Cranky bastard :/ |

rofl yes, but i wouldn't say it's even about being 'prone to gain[ing] weight' but instead about being naturally heavier. most people, health conscious or not, have a 'target weight' in mind, be it an exact number or simply an idea. they're usually not likely to weight much less than that. people diet to reach that number. of course they'll gain weight afterward...eventually, they stop thinking "ok, let's lose 2 more pounds." that sort of study does'nt tell me anything. |

I apologise if I over-reacted. Unfortunately, slagging people off has become so common around here that it's hard to tell if it's just silly banter or if someone's being a downright twat knocking you for no good reason. I usually assume it's the former, but it's become harder to tell the difference recently. My crankiness may have contributed to my mistake, I admit.

Not really that silly. I was told it would be a good way to become more active and it also makes it easier to lose the unintended wait, keeping the lean mass (or whatever you call it in English). After doing a battery of exams and seeing it wouldn't jeopardise my health, I decided to give it a go.
The real kicker is that it hasn't done sod all to my body. I'm pretty sure I'd have lost the same amount of weight with or without it.

In my defence, I did say I was cranky :toothless

These pills apparently broke my banterometer. Gotta work on that again :D |
