I this case i don't know what your drawner should sound like
the 1st one doesn't sound anything like my real G that's for sure
and i can pick out a real 2500 from a Waves one anytime.
But hey if you read i've got my guess so far right:
nbr 2 (first compressed file VST)
nbr 3 (2nd compressed file VST)
So VST's have a certain sound after all ;) |

| So in essence, a compressor is a compressor. When you tweak settings different compressors will sound different, but in the end, you just adjust the parameters differently and you can get almost identical results regardless? |

No, all VSTs have a sound, as Raphie so clearly "proved" above. |

no a software compressor is an algo, do X if setting is Y with a predefined mathematical curve. an analogue compressor drives voltage though electronics or tubes or optical film, the results are quite different. I could recognize take 2 and 3 quite easily as they have that typical ITB wet newspaper sound which i don't like. After that i lost interest and track, which i told Cryo but he can't be asked to deliver 8 snips which can be listened in parallel.
by enumeration, taking out what you know for sure are ITB characteristics I would have got there. Even by not knowing his Drawner.
but hearing 4 or 5 different takes again and again in sequence, sort of resets your short term memory. whether that's relevant for an audience is a different question. In the end something gets to you or not. In Cryo's example i like the uncompressed snip the best. |

Right well I'm not interested in hardware tbh, since I'll never own any probably. I recognise the difference between analogue and digital, sure.
I'm just glad that like EQ and comp's can be had for free and perform the same feats as people spunking hundreds on each effect.
I only use FLStudio's built in and tbh I really like the sounds I get.
Big up free vst. |

Yup I've used that. The skin was all Russian when I did though, they got English UI's for it now?
EDIT >>> Just RTFM.

Wow, you're pretty smart for a guy who doesn't know how to chop a .wav up for himself. Aren't you a mastering engineer? |

I'm lazy, did above on my laptop, let the file play in Chrome.
but then again i'm right too, above posts to prove it :D
Sorry Cryo, I can't write a decent song, but got half decent ears ;)
But then again, real question is, will it matter to the audience, or to put it otherwise will analogue put some subliminal ambiance on a track that your fans will appreciate more? who'll knows, probably not. |

So, you've proven that you were right by guessing that #2 and #3 were software, then claiming that you actually meant Comp #1 and Comp#2 when you were wrong? And, you couldn't even take a stab at which one was hardware, nor hazard a guess on the rest? And you've got great ears? |
