Brood Audio label boss Erphun's new and very first artist album comes out this coming Monday, February 13th!
Stepping into Erphun’s world, the unfamiliar listener will never be prepared for what they are in for. His productions have commanded dance floors around the world with such urgency that his audience is instantly addicted. While his music and vision are a breath of fresh air to most of his new listeners, I’ve had the pleasure of watching the Erphun brand grow from its infancy throughout the many years we have been friends. Even in his early years, you couldn’t deny the passion the man had for dance music culture. He knew what he wanted and no one could stop him.
When Ali began contemplating writing an artist album and asked for my thoughts, I was excited for him, as I’ve always felt he needed to do it. I have heard plenty of failed attempts at DJs crossing over to artists, and I understood the stigma he was fighting against. His approach was simple. Drawing from his formative years learning music theory and his classical violinist training, he would write and produce the album entirely himself. There would be no ghost producer, or anyone attempting to steer his ship. When it came time to find vocalists for certain songs, he carefully chose who he approached and made sure they fit with the project completely. He had a vision that only he alone could see through to the end.
The result is as challenging as it is engaging. The sonic textures he crafted ease you to the edge of sanity and reel you back in with his hypnotic grooves.
The simple touches of his ancestral heritage poke through, breathing an ancient organic life force into the arrangements that are innately haunting and moving. This is an album that plays through like an epic adventure, the forces of good and evil are at play here and there is no doubt who’s side we are on. Welcome to Erphun’s world.
