UPDATED (new MP3 up)
I feel like I am getting a lot better since I joined the forum a year ago (to the month).
The last thing I worked on in this song is the strings. It is a starting point for them, not finished, but I hear some elements of them I really like. Also, after 'the drop' I haven't really finished it up yet. But listen to the drop with the bass.
Any comments?

| Oh, and I think the string synth is called a Mellotron? With a little fx I thought it sounds pretty :P |

Sorry man, as I don't have that much time to go into a detail review of your track (you know, work, SC requests, some planning for..... lol) but I can definitely see/hear some good potential in your production.
From my perspective I would work on this "maturing sound" element which should/may incl. stronger melodic development, uniqueness of your sound, catchy break and this groove/energy/riff which make people listen to your stuff over and over again lol.
In your case (or your track) I would spend more time on melodic part evolution which should be your strongest element in this production, my $0.02
Cheers,

Thanks for the feedback 007
I am really frustrated with the track right now. It just is wrong foundationally. I have a meeting with two other producers more advanced than me this weekened and want to fix it b4 then.
I have to decide if I want to have the song be Tech- Trance, Progressive house (Pryda, Glenn Morrison, Jerome Is-mae style) or electro trance. This will affect the bass synth I use as well as what notes the bass plays and the kick and drums I am using and the tone of the climax. Right now I have the song jumbled without a direction with some misfitting aspects.
Anyway, I like the breakdown and the strings during the climax and just need to decide where to take the song from there specifically the bass, drums and kick. I get obsessed with fixing the song and just wait for college (which I am at now in between courses) to be over to work on it and can't concentrate :P |

I think it shows very excellent and mature production skills. Great snare. I like the bass and percs a lot.
I don't know if you should woprry about this genre straight jacket thing you talk about. It just sounds good to me.
Funnily enough, even though you like the breakdown, thats the only bit I find a bit nothingy really. You maybe want to make the breakdown more exciting, to keep up the dance energy and so on as this track for me doesn't need a mild and quiet breakdown - but thats only a taste call.
Great work |

Darek, thanks. I hope my new mix is going to reflect some more improvement.
Thanks Richard. I am not trying to constrain myself. I love genre blending - it's one of the things I really like about artists like Markus Schulz, it's just that I had to decide on a tone for the bass to fit with my track. Ultimately I decided on a Progressive House (Pryda style) and will upload the result when I am finished.
Out of my messing around I came up with a House (Axwell style) mix of the song as well. I might do a Tech-trance mix too. |
