Who loved JTT as much as I did...?
j/k
Anyone doing any work on their homes/properties?
Last few weekends been doing electrical work at my cabin with a friend (who I think enjoyed the distraction from his 2 year old...).
The bedrooms had no wall or ceiling lighting so we put in 2 sconces in each bed room (the ceilings and beams are exposed so ceiling lighting is pretty much a no-go) and re-did a number of outlets to make them constant and not controlled by the light switch.
Had to take down wood panels and also do some annoying drilling through multiple fire-break type joists in one of the walls (another wall was adjacent to stairs so we had to go through some more crazy beams). Pretty sure most of it is to code (friend does electrical/low-voltage design for work). We did hide one junction box in a wall, but the circuit isn't loaded too hard and everything is capped tight and taped.
Stole a bed frame from my brother and replaced the queen sized matress that was in the room with a nice new full, though the frame is the same size as a queen with the wood sides. Added in some nice night stands and lamps and it actually feels like a bed room instead of some dark flop house...
Next on the list for the bedrooms is new carpet, new paint (my dad tried to paint the rooms with his GF, both lawyers... lawyers cant paint, they taped the face plates instead of removing them... :|), adding floor molding, and probably really soon, some data jacks and moving the router and modem to the closet space (and ripping out the old ass security system that was super ghetto rigged by the previous owners).
Living room needs lighting, its an A-frame and has no lighting save a totally inaccessible light on the fan thats been burned out since we bought the place.
We are having someone come in and look at taking out the wall between the living room/entrance and the kitchen to open it up as well, but probably needs a post and span for the loft floor beams.
In the next year we are also going to re-do the deck, shore up the foundation and probably re-do the kitchen (all of that obviously not done by ourselves).
I've found this type of work to be very enjoyable, I sort of want to pull a Peter Gibbons and quit coding to work digging ditches or something... :wtf:
Here is a ty cellphone pic:

Not sure what I want to paint the room... |

It wasn't a lot really, a lot of it was figuring out wtf the people did when they built this place...
Most of it was bitch work, taking down panels, threading wire, going under the house and watching for drill bits coming down, re-tacking panels (i suck at nailing tack nails... need tack-gun).
To be fair my friend did most of the electrical, but he has more experience than I do with that by far. :p |

1. Have an idea of what you want
2. Ask a gay guy if it looks ok
3. Get someone else to do it
4. Work a depreciation into it and claim back on tax
5. WINNING! |

Yeah, my inspector said there was illegal wiring throughout my house. There is literally a cable outlet in every room, even the bathrooms. :wtf: :stongue:
The Garage interior is covered in pegboard (for tool hanging... it's manly), but then there are cable wires hanging out from beneath it, and -get this - DVI cords all over the place. :wtf:
It's like the previous dude took care of his car just fine, but then had half a dozen monitors in his garage, too. Paranoia, imo. |

Will a slightly somewhat mostly gay girl and a modest checkbook suffice? :D |

Yeah I guess so if she has some kind of taste, plus you have the added advantages of an abundance of cash-only Mexican slave labourers, so it's eminently possible!
Just make sure Poncho's handler understanda-da English.*
*reminds me of an overnight stay in LA and the hotel had 2 x toilets in the bathroom and for the life of me to this day, can't figure out if its an American thing or a bungle. |
