Denon Mixer and CD Players (pg. 2)

Thinking about the S2 like dj_alfi suggested to begin with...I would like to have some CDJ's but it's just too expensive for me right now. I don't know anything about DJ'ing and I need some place to start. Having it all in one for under $500 seems like the right choice. But I'm going to give it some more thought though obviously. Does anyone have the S2 and have anything to say about it?

Good luck mate

Thank you! Still having second thoughts, but I'm going to give it some more time. I don't want to wait too long to decide, because the S2 price will go back up probably. Just don't want to do anything rash.

Go with the S2. A friend of mine was in the same boat. Didn't know what to buy and I pointed him to the S4. He's loving it. You won't be dissappointed. Great place to begin without having to spend a bunch of money.

For your other question, I have the S4 and it's a great controller. Only negative I have is the small jog wheels. The cool feature on the S4 is, it has two line level inputs on it for cdj's, tt's. I don't know if the S2 has it or not.

Prices gonna dump in march.

Is that true?

Is it realistic to scratch with those jog wheels?

Can you use an external interface instead of the one that's built-in?

I have an S2.

While yes, as you said earlier in the thread, having a one-in-all system would be a big no-no back in the day, but now that it's all midi knobs with a soundcard, that's pretty much a worry of the past. You can even re-map your controller if you want to improve your workflow etc, and you could always get one of the faderfox controllers, or any generic midi controller really, if you feel like you need more buttons and knobs. And while having only 2 channels would be a tiny minus, layering 3 or more tracks is really not something one should be doing until at least a couple of years into the mixing.

Is it realistic to scratch with a Denon DJ DN-S700?

It hit me when I posted that, that "maybe he wasn't being a sarcastic bitch?", but I opted to see your reply first. :p my bad...

"Is that true?"

apparently the price is $449 until march 31.

"Is it realistic to scratch with those jog wheels?"

you'd might have to reposition yourself if you have long arms etc, because the jog wheels are kinda small (compared to vinyl), but i feel the scratching feels more natural than on a CDJ-1000 etc. Might be just the vinyl-ish plate thats on top of it.

"Can you use an external interface instead of the one that's built-in?"

I think so, but don't take that as cannon. I had no problem playing through my pc speakers with the S2 hooked up, unless I'm remembering wrong.

I wouldn't see why though? It seems to do the job pretty well, if you aren't too ambitious regarding buffer settings. I have noticed some pops when setting it too low, but it was not often and it mostly just reminded me of crackling from vinyl.

yeah.. I'd rather use this motu firewire interface to drive the audio, also need to run a mic w/ Logic in the background. Nothing against the NI interfaces

dj_alfi
You can run a mic straight into the s2 though if MC'ing is your thing.

i have used that cd player once and i don't know if it was excesively battered but the plastic play/cue buttons suck badly, first of all i am one of those that before pressind play count the bars pressing cue and it's hard to do this with this buttons + sometimes they stuck.
