T. E. Fritz - Massive Mix (3hrs. 40mins., Many genres, 95 tracks)

“Work” on this began sometime in early/mid October; can’t really remember exactly when. Up until this past Wednesday, I had been working on this at an extremely slow place on account of tracks that had not yet been released, school, and work. It was supposed to be roughly forty more minutes longer (about another month’s worth of figuring), but I thought throwing in the Rock tracks I had in mind would do away with the tone in the latter portion of the finished product. (That, and I was having a lot of trouble of finding ways of making smooth transitions. All of my “test mixes” with Rock music were either very coarse or complete failures; so I ultimately decided that I wasn’t going to give it a go during the actual mixing.)

Now it’s done, and it’s going to be the last compilation I put to-gether for a (long) while, seeing as how I might as well have made three separate mixes. Technically, and selection wise, I’ve done this sort of thing before, just not on this scale. I’m happy that I was able to fit in (a lot of) tracks that I wanted use but could not implement in past compilations. I’d like to give a big thanks to pozz for giving a small contribution (Track #14) from his “In Jah” compilation to this compilation. Hope you guys like it; comments appreciated.

PS. Sorry that I cut this up in three (now two) parts. If you have any trouble downloading, please let me know.

This looks very interesting, but I've no idea if/when I'll find time to l;isten to four hours of music in one shot. I did very much love your previous Fake Shemp mixes though... in fact, they're some of my very favourite TA mixes, and I mean that without hyperbole.

it's hard to comment in detail on a mix so big. i tried looking for a narrative line, or a textural one to explain the progression, but couldn't. the amount of ground you cover, all the various sources you grabbed music from; it's like wandering from one landscape to the next. it really is a journey though, and the tracks you chose carry themselves across genres. normally, genres are restrictive and narrow the available possibilities for mixing, but you opened them up by going so smoothly across so many. damn man, makes me wish i made something like this, too.

the first 10 tracks or so tend to drag on, so the intro isn't as crisp as it could be. and, sometimes, there is an annoying vibrato in the low-end -- really evident in Gigi Masin's Clouds (flippin' excellent producer btw, ever heard "Call Me"?).

the mixing is creative and well-placed all over, but the move from 46-51 is ridiculaaaahs.

and about track 22 - you composed this? very russian style of melody man, a lot like Eduard Artemiev. (please send it to me)

Ja, to answer your question from the other mix (haha), the low-end vibrato is a result of the compressor setting that I put on the raw recording.

Funny enough, I also noticed that it brought out a few flaws (volume/hi-hat dips, and even a few beat-matching oopsiedasies. Hahahah. (I desperately want that Radio 1 sound, though I know people around here look down upon that sort of thing.) I think the effect worked better for the last compilation.

Anyway, I haven't had time to focus on my music stuff because of school, which is over in about a week from to-day, finals and everything. Recently, I made a number of adjustments with the compressor and I significantly lowered the volume. It sounds much better now. :) Oh, and I also split it in two archives, instead of three.

Would like to see what others think. In any event, thanks for the feedback! Sorry I got it so long after the fact! :o :o :o

Oh, and right: I'll PM you a link to track number twenty-two to-morrow. :)
