12 hours in an airport

Our flight was supposed to leave at 10:30 am today. It's 10:15 pm and we're told we're boarding soon. I don't fly a whole lot, and haven't been in this position before. Should I demand / reasonably expect any form of compensation from the airline? Is there any standard for this?

Feel free to use this thread to share airport horror stories as well. After someone gives me some info.

I once had to fool the French authorities and pretend I speak French just to get a lousy frappuccino.

That's the most difficult situation I've ever had to deal with in an airport, sorry :p

I think delays like that are pretty common. I got stuck at the airport in cancan for almost 12 hrs once.

One time, I went to Heathrow T5 and they had no Grey Goose in the British Airways Executive Lounge.

Bad times.

Jesus man, I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm so glad there was no suicide involved :p

I'm not sure there is anything your way but in europe there are laws which mean if you're delayed for certain amounts of time, which I'm not sure on the specifics of but I think is something like 4 hours or so then they're liable to provide you with a voucher for a hot meal & a drink at the airport to start with. No grey goose involved though, Acton.

If you're boarding now, then your ship has sailed. With delays you gotta be proactive. They will give you alot of stuff, if you only come and ask for it, be it hotel room, food vouchers etc. all depending on the nature of the delay (how long, time of day..)
