The crackle on vinyl sometimes and the sound used by Burial all the time is unpleasant for me.

There's a difference between ' with your head' and 'physically hurts to listen to'
Besides, that track is not very 'head' just well executed ambient techno :p
Can you listen to that part just fine? (at higher volumes)
That's my question.
I think what's ing with your head is actually a left to right panning effect that's panning on a high frequency. I can hear what you are hearing but I found the first record's sound especially appealing. I can see how it could be nails on a chalkboard to someone else though.
enydo
I get this occasionally.

Not always System.
Hyper-Sensitivity to alarms, sirens, high pitched noises can actually be an indicator of hearing damage.
I get it and I know I've ed my ears.
This is my ears. Its called Hyperacusis. I got it when I was 22 years old clubbing twice a weekend. It heals slowly with time but never totally goes away.
Edit: Now that I think about it, this might explain my affinity for percussion, especially while high.

No, the cymbals don't bother me. I'm pretty sure I don't have overly damaged hearing, because I can still hear things like bat song, that are at a higher frequency than most adults can hear.
Sand Leaper
Only when it gets extreme. I remember Anthony Rother did this ridiculously delayed and reverbed breakdown with handclaps when I saw him at Fabric a couple of years ago, and on that rig it became physically uncomfortable to the point that I had to leave the room.
Also, stuff like this:

Yes, I'm afflicted with something similar, and the response to certain high frequencies involves clicking, popping, crackling and distortion. This is also due to clubbing/spinning nights in my younger years, but sadly has not subsided with time all that much. I'm wondering if white noise therapy would lessen it. Alternatively, I have self-diagnosed, so it could also be a torn tendon within the ear.

Yeah, that's most likely it.
VAR
2k Hz is considered an irritating frequency for humans.
in contrast, 4k Hz is considered pleasant.

Vinnie, I figured out how to manage it. Get a small fan, either a desk size fan, or a small house fan. Run it in the room that you sleep in overnight. It will stop the deafening silence that is most likely plauging you. You want there to always be a very soft hum in the background and it will help take that sensitivity and tinnitus away. A fish tank is even better if you can make the sound of falling water. Its a real healer take it from someone who's been to the abyss with his hearing and climbed out over the last decade. If you need more details let me know I can offer help in terms of dealing with it both physically and mentally. It was a major stressor in my life for years.
