Reaper has a trick for VR (getting around the vst3 issue) you might wan to look into. I don't have VR so I never really paid attention. Don't know if that would work on your DAW but might be worth a look.

Some info here but dunno if it will help you. But I tried ;)

Well, that's not the only need. One of the problems I'm having is that the sidechaining capability is disabled in some DAWs (e.g., Studio One) when you are using a bridge. For example, I'm trying to process some vocals that I recorded last week with Vocal Rider, but I have to revert to the 32-bit version of my DAW to get VR to work with sidechaining. PITA. |

I've tried Reaper many times, not a fan. As I mentioned earlier, it's not a big deal to me because 64-bit Waves is supposedly a month or less away and I can always revert to the 32-bit version, when necessary, in the meantime. I also use PT9 and Sonar, so another DAW is not something I'm interested in anyway. The point of my post above was just to point out that there are other issues besides RAM usage associated with 32-bit plugins, bridges, etc. |

I get you, I was just trying to say that in reaper there was a way around some of the issues it has with VR. I was thinking that you "may" be able to apply some of that solution they discovered to your daws, not that you should switch.

I just realized that the Sonar X1d update that is going to be released next week also supports 64-bit Rewire. |

Rumor has it (from multiple reliable sources) that Waves v9 is coming this week.
And, I just got an email from Sound Toys about the SXSW TapeOp this week, which stated "...Everything is BIG in Texas, and so is our news. Or is our news LITTLE? Hmmm. What does that mean?" No idea what that means, but I hope it means that 64-bit is done. |

The release of Dr Drum of course! ;)
I have to wonder RE Waves... Pensado mentioned something a while back abet jokingly about his 'sig series' like CLA/JJP/Kramer/Maserati. Any rumors about that? If they release 64 bit that might be the time to do it *assuming he was not actually joking. Not that I want any, just curious.
Speaking of 64 bit, the newest beta release for the Jupe is out. It has in fact solved my earlier core spike/distribution in grand style. No more issues (until the next I suppose).

Since some of you guys know a bit about this and, while we're on the topic, why is it that the 64-bit versions of plugins usually have a smaller file size than the 32-bit version? |
That should be pretty obvious. 64 bit is twice as much as 32 bit, so you can put more bytes in each kB, so the file size is naturally smaller. |

It's the only way to use a totally Apogee interface. |

lol, true, and I'm not stressing about the future of Audio on Mac.
Logic X will come out and it will be completely 64 bit, and that will then sit nicely on the new Mac Pros.
Apple have decided that the Mac Pros are not longer on a 1 year cycle - they are now on a two year cycle which makes sense as most Mac Pro users get several years (4+) without upgrading to another system.
By the time they bring out the new one, they will have two previous generations of users waiting to upgrade, thus boosting the sales of one of their most cost heavy (lowest margin) product lines. |
