Rann, or someone, why does this 35 yr old track sound so much better than most modern tracks. Listen to the depth and granularity of it!

First, points to you for using the word granularity.

Second, because back then music had dynamic range, good musicians and moar analogue (seriously).

I have to say that track is ing wicked and I can think of about a dozen acts/bands that have clearly ripped this off.

I had that track on a mix tape when I was about 11

I only found out what it was about 2 years ago.

Imagine how delighted I was when I discovered it had such a hot cool video as well.

Euro synth magicians dressed as 60 era spacemen in front of the Pathenon? It was only ever going to be Epic.

And I love it when you rediscover a formative piece of music; You hear a mix tape and over decade later you find out what that track/artist/dj was.

I had that with a mix tape from the mid 90's - it was a tape that I just got and brought to a party - it was a 1 hour of epic/house classics and a bunch of us got hooked on house/EDM from that moment on. All I knew was that it was an essential mix. 11 years later, the tape is long gone, but I stumbled upon a track listing that looks familiar-ish, managed to find a download of it and all I can say is....goosebumps :crazy:

The funniest thing was, I had always thought he was a bit as a DJ but I had to eat humble pie when I realized it was Pete Tong :eyes:

That's probably a good call, given the cost of buying studio space, which is not a good investment in most cases anyway. But it looks like he is at least using his own gear - notice that the same Focusrites, NS10s, ADAT, and possibly a few others are present in both studios:

You should only ever do that with liquid acid.

Richie - aside from the other oh so obvious point of entry, you should foreskin it. It's a semi permeable mucus membrane just like the nose.

Good luck trying to get any semblance of wood for the next two days though.

Me and my mate reckon a key ingredient to so many classic works is the incorporation of ambient spaces and also re - recording piped stuff back into the studio. For me this is a big thing missing from edm just now. Some sort of vitality is imparted that cannot be faked imho.

I saw this ambience plug - in advertsied a couple of years back that was supposedly all about ambient room prescence, can't recall it's name, it was expensive at about £400 I think. It enabled all sorts of speaker and distance settings. Wish I'd bought it now but can't recall it's name.

it isn't better , it isn't different. I personnally can't stand pre 2000 dance. The generic drums, the generic patterns, this is why so many musicians ing hated it. the days of omp tiss omp tiss where just awful. The ital disco stuff wasn't bad but that UK from 1990 to 2000 except maybe 2 artists was just so ing bad that you had to be on drugs to enjoy it.

This is where opinion and fact need to be separated :D

If you don't think Gamemaster is the single greatest trance track of all time you're dead to me. Dead I tell you. Unless that's one of the two, but even then your'e an exaggerator of the greatest magnitude.

I'll sleep on my ammunition of retort for your inevitable 'lesson'
