I take it then, that you're a bit curious by nature; about people, their motivations and all that. |

I'm thinking of getting LASIK done while I am away from the states but I am afraid of my eyes getting ed up by a guy who can't be sued. (Bad mindset I'm sure, but as an American I feel like that is my only leverage.)
Anyways, my main concern was because I am consistently doing sports which put me in high altitude, extreme temps all that stuff. I was told that there is a procedure they use for fighter pilots I should look into instead. Has anyone gotten the procedure done who does crazy things and is there any special advice for it? My vision is just slightly near sighted. I can get by without glasses most of the time but I refuse to take them off because I like being able to see absolutely everything clearly. |

it's called PRK. instead of them cutting the membrane around your eye, they basically use a brush on it. it lasts like 15 seconds or so (imagine the sound of a dental drill) that rubs/scrapes/whatever the membrane around the eye. makes it "like new". recovery time is 3 months of non-stop eye dropping steroids. it's non surgical, so the odds of something going wrong are lower, but the recovery time is much longer. |

Standard lasik takes less time to recover from. Problems that reduce eyesight I think are uncommon however there are websites like: http://lifeafterlasik.com/
I think it is a time factor thing, if you think that technology will continue to improve to the point you can get a whole eye replacement before you suffer side effects then it is good.
The flap depth has been steadily reduced with the new lasik technologies.
This is a bit like cocaine - lots of people do it but a few people die.
Not everyone dies, and many people enjoy the benefits of cocaine.
If the airforce were going to pay for you to have cocaine, would you take them up?
Worse case scenario learn to play piano. |

| I had the chance to get the operation, but went with glasses. I've heard some of the pros and cons and i'd rather not risk it. |

| Your vision can get worst. THe after effects of seeing halo and shadow effects. Constantly having dry eyes It will not completely fix your vision, thus you may have to wear glasses. Risk of the cornea not healing properly (or ever). |
