Windows 8

Anyone here excited for it? Looks every interesting to use since they switched up the whole user interface. While some things may be similar it's a big jump from Windows 7. And also since Windows 7 had to fix all the problems from Windows Vista... I was just getting used to it, now the flipped the bitch all over again. There are a few things it seems they need to fix as in user interaction, finding buttons etc but it also looks like it moves very smoothly. There's a video on engadget that shows W8 on an 82" screen that resembles Minority Report. Pretty awesome!

Tablets will become a big part in home integration, as you can see the whole METRO interface is continued throughout Windows mobile, tablets, 8 and Xbox Live.

I love their new custom font, thank god they didn't resort to Helvetica...

They have also removed the 'Start' button... or placed it elsewhere.

Its mostly cosmetic changes.

The usual security tweaks have been made, as well as advanced power saving features.

There is a quick start up feature that can be enabled that will make boot times much quicker. Essentially, all boot services will hibernate on RAM or the HDD instead of completely shutting off.

The kernel itself though is more or less the windows 7 kernel which was a refined version of the Vista kernel.

Most of the tweaks were made to be more receptive to the touchscreen/tablet-centric demographic that we are shifting to.

If it's geared to better accommodate a touch device, it would be great if it was able to run om my iPad.

Are you sure about that? Win8 now supports ARM, which makes me think that there was a lot more development.

Can't wait for the ARM version to drop, and have it ported to my transformer prime.

Yep. It would be complete integration to all my Windows based computers. I already have an iPad and don't wish to get another touch pad.

I haven't been excited for anything Microsoft since Windows 95 which imo is the last time they actually showed an attempt at innovation. The company doesn't take risks. Just does the minimum changes required to have their customers purchase a new product (not making new and old compatible of course). Prolonging the monopoly and milking their license cow are their only goals in my eyes.

Fairly sure they've been using Segoe for at least three years now.. Still looks awesome IMO.

(side note, every UI I actively use is Helvetica.. Nothing wrong with Helvetica. ;))

Ya there isn't anything wrong with it, although every designer thinks its the best font to use because they can't think of anything else = no creativity.
