American Express have the most loyal customers though and traditionally a wealthier demographic. Not since they got into the credit card game though, and not since all you need for a Platinum charge card in most countries is a pulse now but oh well...

Another good reason to use a credit card and not a debit card as it's not your money.

If your debit card gets cloned, is there no comeback or recompense?

It really depends on the bank and what level of account. I'm covered with my bank debit cards as long as I can show that it was not me etc, but with a lot of banks, the debit funds transaction is immediate meaning the have no way to recoup the funds once it is sent to the recipient. That's one of the reasons why getting a debit card is way easier than getting a credit card - there's little to no risk to the banks in some circumstances, both in terms of credit liability but also for misuse/fraud.

The worst that has happened to me was someone defrauding my VISA for like $5. Someone at my school ended up cloning my card and other students cards.

As for my debit card I try and use it only when I need to (i.e at my bank). If I do use it at a shady ATM, I try and find the nearest branch of mine and change my pin.

One thing I can not stand, that my US Visa doesn't have a chip, so every day I need to check my account to make sure someone didn't clone my card :whip:

I think the worst was my dad, filling up at a gas station in Vegas. Hours later he got a call asking if he spent like $10000 in Mexico :eyespop:

UPDATE

I flagged the card and reported the fraud as soon as i noticed it, Its getting resolved by VISA but the process takes 4 weeks. In the meantime, i phoned DELL and tried to get some info on the transaction.

All i know is that it was Ordered to a shipping address in Markham and it was for a couple of TV's. Dell refused to give me any more info which kind of pissed me off as it was charged to my VISA.

Unfortunately it seems that the scope of my retribution will be limited to hating on anything or anyone who is from Markham Ontario..... be warned.... the hating will be furious

In addition to what others have said it's more the immediate PITA that comes with having your checking account raided. If your account is drained you're rather hosed if your mortgage is due the next day...

You bother posting a reference to an article published by the Soviet Academy of Science and you forget to post a link?

What kind of spambot are you!? :(
