It's incredible how my most popular status ever (with 151 "likes" and 148 "shares") was posted soon after a quite similar status update. The difference? I couldn't be arsed to spend 5 minutes using Paintbrush the first time around. |

Oh, sure! You need some quick background information first, since it's a parody:- Brazilians suffer from an acute case of cultural cringe. Although it clashes with a deeply ingrained Anti-American sentiment, there's the tendency to portray other countries as superior to ours(with the exception of the USA, because we shouldn't let ourselves be "colonised"). If it doesn't make sense to you, that's because it's irrational;
- We have become a nation of Nous since last years earthquake because the country supposedly survived the apocalypse rather gracefully (one reason is, of course, that it didn't go through anything as apocalyptic as our media portrayed).
- There was a hoax on Facebook that claimed that "in Japan, the only citizen who doesn't have to bow down to the emperor is the teacher, because they say 'in a country where there are no teachers, there are no emperors'". That's bollocks, obviously, not least because it's easier to be an emperor under such circumstances. Still, it didn't stop my more impressionable Facebook friends from parroting this hoax.
Now that you know WHY I made this parody, here's what the caption above the picture said:

So it's just me poking fun at the amount of disinformation posted on Facebook. There were others, such as the moon being the size of Mars on some given night, but my credentials as an "expert" helped me give this pisstake some more credibility, it seems. |
