So not the regular FATSO or even the UAD plugin.
Have a nice opportunity, but not sure what to expect.

My friend let me get the plug-ins forgetting to mention that it was hardware driven.. Couldn't get it to work.. needless to say I settled for Fabfilter.

are you guys ing with me? for real. we all know most hardware has been emulated in software. The FATSO Compression unit has been emulated by UAD's Fatso Plugin but requires hardware as its not powered by the cpu. So, although the FATSO is "hardware" there's also a "software" or "plug-in" version going by the same exact name

But..

there is a difference btween UBK and UAK sooo.. I see your point a little.. Still don't be such ass holes..

Dude, the UBK FATSO and the UAD FATSO are based on the same unit (EL FATSO) but firstly Raphie said he's not talking about the UAD one, and secondly the UBK is for the most part a completely different unit. In fact there's only one setting retained from the EL FATSO, and everything esle is very different, to the point I know people who don't even class it as a compressor anymore, more of a dynamics processor.

So no, they are not the same.

Raphie - haven't used it myself but what I'e heard from people i trust is that it's a great unit. Again, I'm not sure I'd buy it if I was looking for a straight up compressor, but for dynamics and warmth, it seems to be a gem. I know a guy who is now using it on all his tracking and he loves it across vocals.

NO, you're still missing the point:

i.e., he has an opportunity to buy this particular model, presumably at a greatly discounted price, and he wants to know if this particular model (i.e., a hardware compressor that cost $2.5K+ new, NOT a software emulation of it) is worth it. The reason people are being s is because you're not reading the question; you're just typing useless that the OP explicitly stated that he wasn't interested in.

if it is on sale, why not.
