JAMES HIGH - ULiket

I'm 28 years old. I'm from Milwaukee Wisconsin.
I used to serve in the US Navy, but I'm now back in School for Media Studies and production at University of Wisconsin.

I've been producing since 2007, and I'm a drummer of many years. My style is a bit along the lines of anjunadeep i guess, as that has been a great influence on me since the mid 2000's. I'm a child of the 80's too, and I love retro polysynths!
Thats me.

Hope to meet some interesting people here on this forum and Please check out my free downloads on my soundcloud page!! I'm not doing any of this for anything other than love of music.

:tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3

SORRY about the broken link. I reposted under a new name and I added quite a bit. Silk is checking out the track along with a few others. I'm hoping to sign with someone soon.

Also for anyone who like 80's inspired stuff, check out a cheeky track I made last year called My Eighty 90's [Feat. Roland JD-800]

Yo! Welcome!

The link doesn't work! ;)

Updated the link. If anyone else produces in a similar style, shoot a link to it! I'm always happy to meet other producers who make good progressive house / trance. It seems harder to find them these days...All these new young kids and their "dubstep" music. Pshhh.

Also check out the video and follow me on YouTube! I've always got interesting videos posted up there each month.

welcome back and thanks for the service.

not sure how i feel about the vocal sample, i feel like a tiny tweak could make it flow a little better, but the sound selection and mixing sounds pretty good, does have an anjuna sound for sure. it's really creative, especially the synth work and composition. it would be awesome if you could show this to the guys over at AB&B for some feedback, that way you could go back and refine the necessary items and send it back to them. but i'd say you've got what it takes, let's see what others think.

I'd love to give it away to anyone who posts up and gives me a shout. I'm possibly signing it to Silk, or a similar progressive label, but its not set in stone yet. Find me on Facebook if you can or shoot me a PM.
I've ALSO got a new track as of tonight. It's in early stages, but the melody is fully developed. This one is VERY similar to the likes of Michael Cassette, or Pryda...Probly not quite as perfect sound though, har har.

Just relax, make some friends here, take the time to refine your sound and keep seeking feedback, but start giving feedback too... you won't survive just expecting to receive here. there are plenty of other massively talented folks around these parts, and some of them give great feedback. also, getting signed to a label is the least of your concern if you're already this ahead in the game and final polishing is all you need, once that's done then the label will land in your lap.

I've been trying to do what you suggested for a few years. AB&B is HHHHARD to reach...and it really takes an original sounding track to get on that label. They've got the best two labels for prog house and prog trance.

So yeah, I agree, the vocals need a little refining. Spring break is coming up so I've already got a head start on making tracks. Then I can just focus on refining them all.

Here's another track I worked on tonight...
James High - Better Daze

And yes, I definately plan on checking out some great tracks on this forum. I love giving feedback more than getting it. (I type alot) I've also gota clean the house, so a few of the artists soundcloud page will have to get some playtime on autopilot list play. yea!

Thanks for the honest input, Euforix. I've heard people say this about many progressive house tracks in general though. "They all sound the same now... there's no originality." I disagree.

I certainly don't think my choice of drums, synths and chord progressions is not "me," or unoriginal. I have a friend close by who doesn't like prog house or trance. He say's "be original." I'm not concerned with that. Style develops as inspiration hits.
Trying to be original just for the sake of being original can put your mind in the wrong place and cause a creative block. So for me its limiting. I'm not producing to be famous and make awesome new sounds that no one has heard before. I just make music, and I love progressive house..Most of the time all I want to do is make a nice kick, nice beat, and jam out with my favorite synths. thats me. If it happens to sound like anjuna, well that makes sense because I love their label. :tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3 :tongue3

Lol @ the person who said to relax and calm down :)

I like the spirit of your stuff. You're definitely a producer. One thing I would recommend is cut back on the novelty stuff and focus on the music. One of the videos I looked at had a lot going on in the background that made me feel like I was going to have and epileptic event.

Also, the song that had chopped up vocals something about 'I know you like it' I think the song could have done without that. Or at least scaled it back.

Trancelover03591: "cut back on the novelty stuff and focus on the music"

Very good advice.:toocool: I make more "songs" when I'm inspired. It seems trance and progressive house have the most distinguishable melodies of the many sub genres of house music.

Its also funny you mentioned the voice in the track, because thats one of the first parts I made, and after I added the riffs and more synths, it really does get lost in the track at times. I'll either scale back on it, or take it out completely.

Good advise for sure.

great track! very powerful and clean mixing... it wish i could handle it that way! ;)
only part that i dont like that much is that robotic vocal...
