Personally I felt the review lacked any real analogue warmth. It was cold and mechanical with brittle highs and noticibly shrill over-representation of the meat of the spectrum.
I think the review would respond well of one were to sidechain the writer to a literary course, thesaurus and a dictionary, setting the threshold so as to clip the very peaks of propaganda so as to sit it better in the mix, primarily when the advertizing hits.
Then again, had he saved his money and purchased a proper KRK RP5/dual sub monitoring system, the flaws in his production would have become obvious.

It was clearly a flat review which gave the unvarnished truth throughout the spectrum with surprising detail not illuminated on by lesser review writers. It was a spectacular punch for quite the small package.
Were it not for my acoustically treated room, I would have been blown away with his textual zeal! |

I thought RANN said KRK's are bad. |

| the real question is how are they compared to Genelec 8040??? Both sound, build, warranty, powerhandling etc etc. What Ive concluded with is that the CMS is slightly more open/clear in the midrange area and probably a bit better soundwise in general but not as solid build, trouble in the bassport etc etc. I do not know, id love to compare them myself as they both seems like the perfect monitor. |

Who are you going to believe, some professional that has a ton of experience working in the field of sound and production or some jackass that spouts random crap on the net?
Let's be honest here. I think Rann himself would tell you that he has exactly ZERO experience working with the world killing RP5 dual sub mix system. Dispite all his hard earned and considerable professional experience he cannot speak from a position of authority on a system he never used.
On the other hand, I, the inventor of the KRK RP5 dual sub system, who never used it either, can spout random crap about how great it is because I have no professional reputation, nor professional experience in sound management or design.
This is afterall the internet ;)

| I don't like Rockit's because they somehow imply Herbie Hanapproves which he doesn't and that is just misleading. I wonder if monitoring technology gets any better or do prices just get cheaper and components used are also cheaper. |

If you get bored, look up the custom guitar pedal and amp sites and the details they go into on germanium transistors/diodes, the different BBD chips, circut design et all and the modern vs. NOS arguments over quality and tone. On one hand, there's a lot of religion involved, but on the other it does point out the quantity/cost/quality problems.
It's interesting if nothing else. |

It's a bit of both tbh. Cheaper monitors have definitely got better than they were say 15 years ago, and the same can be said of the high end monitors, and that's due to advancements in technology and moores law.
Some thing have gone backwards however; for instance I own a pair of 1970's 15" Concentric Cone Tannoy Studio Monitor Speakers. The magnets in them were made using a combination of metals that although incredibly strong in terms of force and efficiency, became increasingly difficult to source and thus discontinued. I had to get them reconed at Tannoy a few years back and they offered me serious money to buy the speakers as they have audiophiles as clients who are desperate to locate those old magnets and coils. |
