I was taught that if I don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all, but ASOT is a ing joke.

why all the hate for ASOT? Have I missed something? Is it because the artists that perform are well known and play tracks that are quite popular?
I appreciate that a lot of people think trance should stay underground as some sort of exclusive club that isn't available to the masses...but you can't deny the sort of music that is advertised as trance thesedays especially on ASOT has become massively popular...
Hell i love it, though it's a shame a lot of people on this forum hate it...but oh well.

Nobody on this forum likes anything, what they do like is trippy, hardcore trance.

Also known as Trance.
Probably what you like are pop vocals, cheese and fart and Eletro Trance, also known as Eurodance.

While I consider the hate to be overblown and counter-productive, the people expressing it do have a point. It's not the 'popularity' in of itself that's the problem, but rather how mediocre and formulaic the most 'popular' songs are.
The current big names of the trance scene are trying way too hard to copy the blander, but much more successful genre Arena House (Guetta, SHM, Avicii). I really wish they'd stop that, especially Armin, they're being prisoners of someone else's genre.
Yes, there is a large difference between drawing influences from a large number of genres to create a unique identity as a musician, and slowly migrating to a much more successful genre for the sake of popularity. That's the difference between you defeating your fear to innovate, and you submitting to said fear.
I saw an article a while ago with Armin stating "I forecast trance songs to include more rap lyrics in the near future", or something like that. My reaction was basically "Why do you need to predict the direction of something you've got almost total power over?". The stuff he's making and playing is strongly influencing the rest of the mainstream trance scene.
So if I was in AvB's position, I would draw a lot more influences from heavy metal and video game music, for starters. I would also pay more attention the underground trance scene and the Japanese trance scene. Another thing I'd do, is dropping all romance-related lyrics in the vocal tracks, and replacing them with intelligent and philosophical subjects.
And most importantly, the DJ worshipping has to go away. It's turning the scene into a cult.

Think DJ Lei-Lei made a mistake playing dubstep on Saturday night, but the death treats on her facebook wall were a bit much.

I guess it's one of those good early 90s japanese pop DJs.

I of course meant to write "Fei-Fei". But I have no idea who she is either.
